When evaluating coach Jamie Dixon, be sure to check the records at both TCU and Pittsburgh | Opinion

Jamie Dixon made it when he finally became an idiot.

The TCU men’s basketball coach has been back at his alma mater long enough now that people take him for granted, and think he’s simply awful.

In his twisted profession, this is progress. At least they care.

It would be great for Dixon, and for TCU, if a few more cared. As evidenced by the atmosphere and less-than-capacity crowd inside Schollmaier Arena for a game involving rivals that are flirting with the NCAA Tournament, the state of the TCU men’s basketball program is in a bit of malaise. Before someone runs Dixon and his staff into the nearest ditch, anyone affiliated with, or a fan of, the university needs to open a record book.

Good article Mac.
To take a line from the article, the bar for muck is about 3 inches off the ground. It’s not a bad article, which for muck is good. It doesn’t [ Finebaum ] on TCU, just admonishes an unrealistic fan base, so still negative.

This basketball season was not a disappointment considering the make up of this year’s team. Jamie did a decent job.

When I lived in Fort Worth/Arlington I had season tickets and went to every home game.

My brother-in-law has partial season tickets to the Cubs. Partial in that it includes nights and weekends (incudes Friday day games) and there are 2 seats with 4 friends. So he is on the hook for maybe 20 games on the season.

You would think that with our fan base that there would be a way to get the arena mostly filled for the 17 home games per year. If I still lived in the area I would be good to go at least half of those. That's like 2 games per month.

Of course, 8.5 would mean that I'd leave at half of the Montana State game...lol

Our big donors are great. They have helped TCU build some of the best facilities in the Big 12. Unfortunately they probably buy more seats (usually great seats) then they can use. It would be great if there was a point of entry ticket swap system. A way for a big donor to contact the ticket office before the game and tell them they weren't coming. Those tickets could then be given to a fan with lesser seats as they enter the arena. I don't have the brain power to figure out how to do that but maybe someone else does. Maybe it is as easy as having a game employee looking for a deserving fan and surprising them with courtside seats after they enter the arena.

We will never truly have a home court advantage until fans show up for every game. Great views from every seat in my opinion so I don’t truly understand the lack of support.

I think NIL, combined with new rosters/transfers every year and the fact that it's now a professional sport have all contributed. I know my interest level has dropped.

Could not disagree more. Love our floor. Best in the nation.
That’s fine, Top. You’re entitled to your opinion. Not sure how you get to best in the nation though. As someone who loves watching basketball, the unique court does nothing to enhance the game. At best it’s a gimmick. At worst, it’s a distraction. I tend to lean towards the latter when I’m watching.

Forget this article. I simply want TCU to make a Sweet 16 appearance before I die. I don’t need a national championship. I was a freshman in ‘90 and we’ve never made a Sweet 16. Just once? Please!

Won’t be this year. Obviously. But for once in my adult life I’d like to see a Sweet 16 appearance.

Just because I’m in the mood to ruffle feathers, I like our floor in person (I live in austin so only been to a couple games over the years since the refurb), but hate it on tv. Even our ESPN+ games are pretty decent quality. But dear god it’s atrocious. Yet in person it looks great.

He’s made plenty of errors this season, but it’s hardly his fault they can’t shoot.

I was literally about to post this. It is bizarre how different it is on TV vs in person

I have not been to any of the other basketball facilities. How does our arena speak against the others?
It’s pretty nice, but could have been a lot nicer. Not that it isn’t a great facility, but it just seems like they way overspent on everything except the actual seating and layout of the arena. It’s the same exact thing as DMC, except they lowered the floor a little and put in new seats. Again, nice, but it was super disappointing because it just felt like a lazy, uncreative renovation.

You would have had to level it and start over or find a new footprint. It is a great arena. Every seat a good one.
