FWST: When evaluating coach Jamie Dixon, be sure to check the records at both TCU and Pittsburgh

“lazy, uncreative”?

How many additional tens (or hundreds) of millions would you have TCU spend?

UTX’s Moody Center is VERY nice and cost $220 mill (IIRC) plus land costs.
They had to bring in an entertainment-venue partner to afford it, and obviously have a whole lot of non-UTx programs in “their” building.

Again, very nice facility. But it’s a pimped out DMC in the arena itself. Just my opinion

Just because I’m in the mood to ruffle feathers, I like our floor in person (I live in austin so only been to a couple games over the years since the refurb), but hate it on tv. Even our ESPN+ games are pretty decent quality. But dear god it’s atrocious. Yet in person it looks great.
I guess I should have added a disclaimer that I have not had the opportunity to see it live. Only on TV. Glad to hear the in person experience is better. I hope to get there one of these days.

Forget this article. I simply want TCU to make a Sweet 16 appearance before I die. I don’t need a national championship. I was a freshman in ‘90 and we’ve never made a Sweet 16. Just once? Please!

Won’t be this year. Obviously. But for once in my adult life I’d like to see a Sweet 16 appearance.
All things being equal, I have 6 less years to live than you. Ha

Really starting to worry about this ever happening. The game changing block call on Jamie vs David Rivers killed our Sweet 16 chances in the 80s. Loved that team!!! We should have been playing UNC next. But we got robbed.

Our new AD is going to have to evaluate why the program appears to have hit a ceiling. Is it Jamie or the support the program gets? Most likely it is a combo of both. Pitt's basketball program suffered when it joined the ACC, which at the time was the easily the best basketball conference after the Big East breakup. He didn't have the support the elite programs had, and his northeast talent pipelines suffered.

It’s pretty nice, but could have been a lot nicer. Not that it isn’t a great facility, but it just seems like they way overspent on everything except the actual seating and layout of the arena. It’s the same exact thing as DMC, except they lowered the floor a little and put in new seats. Again, nice, but it was super disappointing because it just felt like a lazy, uncreative renovation.
DMC was an exact copy of Wichita State’s facility, down to the doorknobs.

Wichita State had already done their renovation and I think TCU hired the same firm to do ours.

I think they saved a good bit of money doing it that way.

Just guessing that most of the games being on ESPN+ doesn't help grow a fanbase. When Dixon first came to TCU, with a 10-team Big-12, most of the games were on cable or over-the-air TV - the small conference had a good TV deal and I guess ESPN+ was not an option yet. This 16-team conference is relegated to the lower streaming channel, another subscription, sheesh, or at least the mid and bottom half is relegated. Something our new commissioner and schools were willing to accept In the latest broadcast deal.

This will all change when all of games are on the Cartoon Network...

Dixon and the team did well this year with a rebuild cast with no NIL stars and a critical injury. TCU continues to be fortunate to have Dixon‘s energy for TCU, and ability. We keep finishing in the middle of the conference compared to the cellar of 10th of ten with only two conference wins. The program was in the deepest pit before he arrived, though Trent Johnson deserves credit for leaving Dixon some talent.

I think Dixon is safe. Besides, we have an AD in name only. What has he said or done?
In fairness, the guy can't really evaluate job status for the winter/spring coaches for a couple of months. Sonny is safe because of the turn around and the buyout. And he will likely have double digit wins next season. Dixon had them rolling just a couple of years ago. Just have to see how much NIL and other things are impacting.

It is super nice for the fans. Baylor just built a great arena and downsized to Scholly size. It is a perfect size. I have 2 great season tickets. All are season tickets in the 2 rows in front of us and 2 rows behind us. 75 % were there less than half of the games. Not donor seats. A lot only came to 3 or 4 games. I missed 3 or 4.
