We are the only former SWC team that has continued to play SMU

on a regular schedule. If they wish to continue the series…let all

of the games be played at the Carter rather than that high school

stadium that they call home.

SMU to the Pac12 would be the most unearned unwarranted conference elevation ever. Hopefully they don’t get invited, TCU drops them from the schedule, and SMU’s athletics fade into irrelevance.

TCU has bigger fish to fry than SMU. TCU-SMU is currently the ONLY annual P5-G5 rivalry in the entire country. It’s time for that to end. SMU does not deserve an annual rivalry with TCU.
This is precisely the type of arrogance that we hated when we were in the MWC.

I didn't say they deserved it.

I seem to remember us dominating the MWC, let me know when SMU is anything other than mediocre in the AAC. They do not deserve an annual rivalry with a P5 program.

And as good as we were as a non-power conference program NOBODY from a power conference was stepping up to have an annual rivalry with us. Before the breakup of the SWC, the TCU-Baylor rivalry was the third longest running rivalry in the entire country. And guess what? They dropped us. If Baylor can drop us as an annual rival, we can drop SMU. They have done NOTHING to deserve an annual home and home series. Let them win the AAC multiple years in a row and we can re-discuss.

If TCU wants to be a program that considers itself worthy of competing for national championships , which is where we are now, then programs like SMU need to prove themselves before getting an annual home and home.

Again, the TCU-SMU rivalry is the ONLY P5-G5 annual rivalry in the entire country. They don’t deserve it.

West Virginia doesn’t play Marshall. Do you know why? They don’t deserve it. They haven’t earned it.

They don't play Marshall because they don't have a hundred-year history of playing Marshall.

I heard a second or third hand story attributed to a WVU athletic director or some such, that the State of WestVirginia could only support ONE top shelf athletic program, and that they weren’t about to divide the pie with Marshall. WVU won’t give Marshall the cred of playing them at all, much less home-and-home.

If SMU wants to build a P5 football program with their own (considerable) resources, good for them. Welcome to the party. If they want to coattail TCU, using TCU resources, I have no sympathy for them. Let them build their own P5 football program on their own dime. Otherwise TCU has no more business in an annual home-and-home “rivalry” with them than TCU has with Tarlton or University of North Texas.

An annual home-and-home with SMU is not a smart business deal for TCU. SMU as an occasional buy game or an occasional two-for-one is a better business deal for the present day TCU football program. TCU basketball doesn’t do annual home-and-home games with SMU basketball any more. And shouldn’t if SMU would use such a series for their business advantage and TCU ‘s disadvantage.

/end rant

Lot of SMU hate here, but as an old-timer (‘98 so not that old) we sucked at one time. We played. We blew them out of the water for years, we played. Sonny beat us, twice. We played. Drop the bs Nicholls St games and keep SMU, it’s a tune up game and D1. No reason you can’t play them, preserve 100 years of tradition plus a 45 min road game, and schedule a good power 5 game. I agree they need to have people/facility’s that accommodate large crowds.

You keep saying this but:
Colorado - Colorado State
Utah - BYU

This is precisely the type of arrogance that we hated when we were in the MWC. F that.

Big difference between a home and home - done and an annual series that includes a September day game in Dallas.

sMU brings Tcu nothing, costs us a bi-annual home game, and is a lose/lose result.

Tcu has played sMU. The thrill is gone.

And yet, we haven’t beaten them at home since 2017.
This game is so easy for TCU to keep up due to the distance. It’s a no-brainer to keep it.

Colorado - Colorado State is no longer an annual rivalry, as Colorado’s AD felt it was no longer in their best interest to be an annual rivalry. They last played in 2019. They will play in 2023, 2024, 2029, 2030, 2033, 2034, 2037, 2038.

Utah - BYU was a P5-Independent matchup, and will now be a P5-P5 match up.
