The mistake of underestimating their talent and not offering them a scholarship. It's a fact that they were not offered scholarships by UT. I am still of the opinion that they would've chosen TCU over UT even if they had offered. I'm just pointing out that you can receive this as a slight. Baker Mayfield had a chip over things like this and he was number 1 overall in the NFL draft. There is nothing wrong with taking things personally, many greats do it.
damn we have some martyrs around here. scheiss the texas staff then and now.
who established the benchmark for they being great evaluators of talent? maybe the very ratings services that the writer once worked and instead of his saying we at rivals were hitting golf balls in the fog with our ratings he throws [ steaming pile of Orgeron ] at the texas staff.
if you want to take the approach of being the underdog so be it, but this program doesn't need to play second fiddle to any program in the big 12 and we don't need a pat on the head from some hack writer to feel good about the job gary and his staff have done finding and developing talent
why do some of you continually fall for this [ steaming pile of Orgeron ]?
gladney committed in june after an east texas camp and was starting to have a big senior year when he went down with a knee. he stayed loyal to the school that offered him first and didn't back off after the knee
daniels had offers from ou, utah, baylor, az state
gaines had offers from ark and utah
collier was headed to tech, but was a monster at a very small school and is from a very long line of d-1 players.
bethley had offers from ou, atm, baylor, nebraska, usc, ole miss, uw, wvu
banogu was hurt his senior season
bottom line is if you don't go to the recruiting camps and combines the "recruiting experts" won't find you because they don't do the leg works.
no one does more rock flipping for talent than gary and that is the only thing that matters
why when i read some of these comments do i feel like wanting to scream sean connery's comment to nicholas cage in the rock about doing your best
I am not really sure why you are so worked up over this. I personally do not think we have lesser talent, but the truth of the matter is these are under recruited guys. I am aware that the article cherry picked some data, but it was also pointing out some significant contributors. Maybe I am just missing your point. I just don't see anything wrong with players playing with a chip because TCU was one of the few schools that recognized their talent.
Gladney - thats a bummer what happened to his knee but fact is he was still under recruited and passed over by Texas.
Daniels isn't listed as a starter. Hopefully he is this week.
Gaines - because they didn't list his Utah offer proves he wasn't under recruited?
Bethley - they obviously cherry picked by leaving this out.
Collier - what does his high school putting out d-1 players have to do with him being overlooked by the big schools?
Banogu - because he was hurt doesn't mean others couldn't recruit him.
You are right - Gary does some serious rock flipping and finds guys that other schools miss. I agree that these kids are probably just as talented as kids that go to Texas but just go unnoticed. I can see why this article might be slighting to our players but I like how it provides that chip. That's how our program has become successful. As soon as you fill your roster with a bunch of guys like Texas has that think they are better than everyone else then you have a problem. The only thing I am falling for is the premise that either Texas didn't think they were good enough or they went unnoticed.
what mistake? it is time we get the freaking chip off our shoulder and realize that regardless of what "experts" say about the talent on this roster this is a very good football team and program.
damn tired of this attitude. it doesn't matter who else offered anyone on the tcu roster. the only thing that matters is tcu offered, they signed on the dotted line, and that is it.
The buzzword at Texas since the waning years of Mack Brown's tenure has been "culture." The program has been on a constant quest to fix it. But no one in the program sets the tone for the culture more than the strength coach. Texas has had four of them in the last eight years. TCU has had one in the last 18, the entirety of Patterson's tenure, in Don Sommer.
Could he write another article about Texas' 4 and 5 star loaded rosters sucking?
if you don't understand the impact of a player missing an entire senior season can have on their being recruited i simply should stop right here.
feel free to play the victim card
They almost beat Clemson and they will have a close one against Bama... until the game starts.I wonder if Daylon Mack wishes he had a do over.

It's modern journalism and hence exempt from having to be truthful.Disagree with headline and secondly, it is not factual either.
I am just confused by the outrage that we in fact have a bunch of kids on our roster that were under recruited. I am fully aware that missing a senior season can change how you are recruited. My point is that it doesn't prevent other schools from continuing to recruit you. Which is why I applaud our staff for recognizing talent when others don't see it or when others give up because of a player's injury. What I don't follow is why it is detrimental for players on the roster to look at that article or have a mindset against UT and say, "I was good enough to play for UT, Bama, .... and I was overlooked, time for me to prove them wrong."
To me that is much different than playing the victim card. The victim card would be if our players didn't persevere through being under recruited or injured and just mailed it in. Instead, we have always have an us against the world mentality. As Gary says, we need to prove them right or prove them wrong. When big state doesn't recruit you why is it bad to have the mentality to prove them wrong? Again, I must be missing your point.
Edit: It does bother me that they use the word "rejects" in the article title.
