Unfortunately, think this could spell trouble for Tomas Jirousek. In my mind, we've got a top 4 that's pretty firmly established with Fomba, Jong, JPJ, and Fearnley. After that you'd have Vives, Maxted, Gorzny, and Jirousek, probably in that order. All these guys are solid doubles players with the exception of Jirousek, so he couldn't even fill the role Ruehl tried to fill last year of dubs specialist/bench singles guy. His compatriot Paroulek has already left, so I wouldn't be surprised if Tomas is considering doing likewise.

Other thing it means is it's probably going to be tough to find a spot for a transfer, unless they're willing to play on their own dime. But I'm ok with that. I don't really like relying on transfers anyways.

Ouch. De Minaur up 2 sets to love and 3-1 in the 3rd set breaker, loses to Garin in 5th set superbreaker. Looking like Kyrgios/Nadal in the semis if he can finish off Nakashima and if he isn't hurt.

Edit: Nadal has to beat Fritz first which isn't a given.

Man, now we're seeing what the Kyrgios haters hate. Media cares about the antics, but fans don't. As long as you try, you can scream at the umpire as much as you want. But I've seen him get booed off the court when it's obvious to all that he just doesn't give a rip. Think this is what Tsitsipas was getting at with the bully comment. It's not that he's a bully, but he is a front runner. When things aren't going his way he just checks out.

Kyrgios effort still sporadic but obv better in the 5th, but Nakashima's play's dropped too. Looks like it's over. If so, he'll be the heavy favorite vs Garin to make his 1st ever semi at a major.

I look at Kyrgios as a gamesman in a sport expecting participants to be gentlemen. It's not against the rules, but it violates every unwritten rule.

It's somewhat like comparing warfare from 2 centuries ago where regiments lined up in front of one another in very predictable fashion. There were rules and gentlemanly conduct was expected. Contrast that to modern asymmetric warfare and you wonder why they used to be so suicidal. How many lives could have been saved had the two sides tried to defend themselves a bit better?

The gamesmanship Kyrgios uses has made its way into every other sport I can think of except for maybe golf. Hell, football and basketball have descended into full on anarchy in terms of show boating and breaking unwritten rules. If Kyrgios is allowed to continue with his antics and is successful using them others will eventually have to join him or risk being owned by him. He's got all the physical tools to dominate. If he's already winning head games before the first serve he'll be dominant.

Should add, I sort of agree about Kyrgios. I think some people like the extracurriculars where I find them somewhat annoying but ultimately kind of a sideshow. Playing guys like that can be infuriating when they're winning but they tend to implode when they're losing. I think Kyrgios would get a much longer leash with me if he tried harder. McEnroe, Connors, Nastase, etc. were no choir boys but they always tried. Now people sort of look at that era nostalgically for the personalities they showed.

ESPN 2 is showing Cameron Norrie’s Quarterfinal at about 8:30 central on Court #1. Women have to finish first, currently 5-3 in the first set.

Update: Cam Norrie vs. David Goffin started at 9:50 on ESPN 2. My earlier time estimate was very poor—the two German women went to 7-5 in the third. Meanwhile, Djokovic, on Centre Court, lost his first two sets but won the third vs. Jannik Sinner—on ESPN.

For anyone with nothing better to do while we wait for Cam, our other recruit Gorzny is playing on court 15 in the 2nd round of the junior event. You can find it on ESPN+. Unfortunately he lost he 1st set 6-2 but it's been competitive.

Goffin playing really well. Norrie down a set and on serve in the 2nd. Norrie really needs to pull this 2nd set off so that he can push Goffin physically.

Norrie down a break now. In huge trouble

Immediately gets broken to start 3rd set. Turrible game

Well Goffin decided to choose violence in the 3rd set. Destroying the ball. I don't think Norrie has won a point in the 3rd set yet... down two breaks and lost 12 points in a row I think

And essentially a total commercial for TCU in the intermission video between sets--and the following commentary. They are still talking about who was the last college player to make/win a grand slam final or win NCAAs and a major. McEnroe the last to win both?
