Sonny: wins to heat level for the 2024 season

I can’t imagine SD getting canned at this stage of the game for any win/loss related reason. A scandal? Sure. But outside of that I just can’t see the money being there to make that kind of move and then go hire anybody that would raise your pulse. Like it or not I think we are married for a few years no matter on field results.

Sonny's contract was extended after the 2022 season and runs through 2028, and was said to make him among the highest paid in the B12. Chasing him after this season might be pricey.
Somewhere between $25-$30m after this season. It would have to be a complete implosion (more than just wins) for TCU to terminate his contract at the end of this season.

Talk about betting on the come...

Sounded like a great idea, until everything collapsed in a heap 8 months later. We were already paying him a ton, with plenty of cash on the side for assistants. Immediately whupping out the TCU Checkbook and flinging more at him was dopey, especially so in hindsight. Now we're stuck with him.

Imagine... $25,000,000 for 5-7 season, followed by another barely-making-a-Bowl-game season, followed by who knows what. I don't have much confidence in Sonny, and I damned sure don't have any for some of his assistants, and it pisses me off that we're on the hook for this buffoon into the next decade.

He may not get canned for another 5-7 this season, but I can’t see him surviving a third season without a bowl no matter what the buyout costs after next season

I would agree, if CSD misses a bowl in this coming ‘24/‘25 season & in the ‘25/‘26 season for a 3rd no bowl; then he’ll likely be fired.

Smells a bit like what Tech did with Coach DudeBro back in the day

This thread is tiresome. I fully expect this team is going to have a very good season and everyone will be thrilled with Coach Dykes again. Looking forward to seeing a solid defense that will compliment a strong offense.

Agree. Andy Avalos arrives here with an impressive resume and I believe our defense will be much improved this year with him in charge. BTW, for the starzies fans, we have 13 four stars on the defensive roster not to mention Obiazor and Hodges who I've awarded battlefield promotions to 4* status. We have the talent and the coach to be pretty good on defense.

This guy says 9-3 if I'm reading this right.

He thinks one of our 3 losses would be at SMU?

Don't really understand all the negativity at this point in the year..

Defense had problems, they were addressed and I think that will provide good results.
Offense can move the ball, was not a problem
Identified red zone issue, and will see if adjustments are made
Think the Frogs are currently top 20 in 2025 recruiting class rankings. (actually 14 at this post time) still early of course.

Not sure what brings out this concern about firing the coach unless people just want to spread negative values about the team and program for other reasons.

I cannot speak for everyone, but I will say this: I lost all confidence in Sonny Dykes after last year's swan-dive into an empty pool. Sonny and his Crack Staff were out-coached by a sideshow clown in the opening game. The Head Coach has to know who his team is. He has to have a good judgement of who his Coaches are, and their mastery of both their schemes and the ability of their players to execute them. He failed in those categories. Spectacularly.

Will this improve? Who knows? But, given my judgement of Sonny, I have little hope of substantial improvement. I mean, why bother? He has a gargantuan contract, and a few years of slack guaranteed...

The problem is that some people are looking for any excuse to fire him because they do not like certain people on the staff or they want him to fail to show that it was it was a mistake to run CGP off.
