Pretty lengthy group text discussion on our win total this year and what it means for Sonny’s future ..here was the consensus

0-4 wins=FIRED
5-6 wins=“Aranda hot” for 2025 and will have to sacrifice “Damian” at the altar as OC
7-10 win=all good, status quo
11-12 wins=give that man a raise

Thoughts?

In my humble opinion, there is enough talent on this team to have a pretty good season. If Josh is healthy all season and our OC allows him to use all his weapons I believe seven wins, or more, is likely.

Anything less than seven wins I'm certain this forum will be screaming for change along with most of the fan base. I have absolutely no idea how our major donors will look at that scenario.

The problem I see is Dykes’ ability to coach his OC to expectations. This was LHCGP’s downfall, and the great coaches coach their coaches. I consistently point to Saban and how he adapted over time to different style of offensive play, but also with a new OC almost every year, and to the job done with Milroe last year. Milroe is trash. Alabama was decent qb play away from being NCs last year, and they somehow duct taped that bum together enough to pull of the Georgia upset, and should have beaten Michigan. In the end, Milroe is not that caliber of qb.

Dykes needs to have been coaching Briles through all his red zone deficiencies and his lack of consistent identity.

I hope he has been.

Sadly, if Dykes were to be in the fired range as listed, I HIGHLY doubt TCU would actually do so.

With our location, resources, players, coaching experience and OU gone, there is absolutely no reason at all we shouldn't be in the final mix for the B12 championship every year....not necessarily easily winning it, but one of the "top dogs" in the B12 if you know what I mean. (Hell even with OU we should be in the mix)

That is result that our school has invested for. The resources given to the program by TCU line up with achieving that result.

Anything below that is underachievement and misaligned return on investment and warrants change. - See last season.

However, with that said, anything ABOVE that ie 2022 should warrant a new contract. See 2022.

Looking forward to seeing this year. It must be an improvement vs last year or we must have a new head coach.

If our defense improves (how could it not?) our offense won’t be under the gun constantly. We have to be able to stop opposing offenses. I’ll be very interested to see how this plays out this year.

I know there are big questions about the OL but I think we will be able to score points. I also hope our kicking game is better. That was shaky last year.

Anything under 8 wins not good enough. It’s year 3 for Sonny, there is commitment from the Unniversity and with the changing landscape the program can’t afford to be mediocre.

Fanbase need to see what Dykes is doing for the program. Got of players way to let’s studs get to NC game. Made changes in the right places when it was obvious bad coaching was a problem. Recruiting at the Qb position for Boykin type players and the right number of O and d linemen rather than a roster of 25 WRs.

8+ wins and we should be thrilled waiting for his recruits to be ready. Hawkins a stud.
