OT - Movies thread

Last night the family sat down to watch Red One on Prime. I know it got terrible reviews, and the PG-13 rating is well deserved making it difficult to enjoy for families with pre-teens, but we enjoyed it as a fun popcorn flick. It's not a movie that will convey a deep meaning of Christmas, but it does a good job being entertaining with Christmas lore and both Chris Evans and Dwyane Johnson do a good job in the buddy cop roles. It's certainly a 7/10 flick and doesn't really deserve the utter trashing from the critics.

I just learned tonight it's on Prime. Took my son to the theater to see it over Thanksgiving break. Could have saved $40

My son was home and wanted to watch Star Wars, starting with episodes I and II. It’s been a long time since I had seen them and I knew they were pretty bad. But, wow! I’m pretty sure if those movies came out in episode order instead of episode IV-VI being first, they would have never had the popularity they have now. The story line, the characters, the acting, …, really just everything about the movies is pretty terrible. Jar Jar may be the worst character in a movie that has ever been created. I always remembered I hated that character but time had softened my feelings a bit and I went in thinking, “maybe it’s not that bad.” Plus Samuel L. Jackson and Liam Neeson seemed completely out of place in those roles. And don’t even get me started about Yoda. He walks slowly with a cane most of the movies and then flies around like a ninja during light saber battles. Ewan McGregor’s portrayal of Obi Wan was unlikable. And the kid who played young Anakin was the worst. The entire premise of “the pod races” was dumb and unnecessary for the story.
I’m not a sci fi fan by nature but enjoyed the original trilogy.
I remain convinced that nothing beyond the original three movies should have ever been made.

Agree with almost all of this but Andor is fantastic and definitely worth its effort making. You should check it out if you haven’t.

Lol and as I get deeper into season 2 i realize there's lesbians running around all over the CIA.

I was referring to Bobbie...looked up the woman who plays her and she's a smokeshow.

I'll go ahead and say 3 of the 4 are smokeshows.
I just assume everything on TV is just like real life. What I can tell you is, I think we’ve got a pretty serious Wizard problem.

She must be a pretty solid actor to pull off her Lioness role. I looked up her film history on IMDB and damn near everything she’s been in is Hallmark sounding movies (e.g. Christmas Wishes and Mistletoe Kisses).

The helicopter pilot is a smokeshow
The target from season 1 is a smokeshow
Bobby is a smokeshow
The Lioness from season 1 is not

All of this.

Yeah, noticed that too. Nothing significant...just made for TV sappy movies. She plays Bobbie damn well...I know a few women like her and she has all the mannerisms down.

I took my wife on a date night to see Nosferatu. If you're expecting spangly or sexy vampires this won't hit the mark, but if you want to see a true gothic-style horror with every scene and shot an absolute work of art with stunning set and costume design, then this is for you. Robert Eggers delivered an absolute masterpiece of cinema with period accuracy and stunning cinematography that in a sane Hollywood would win several Academy Awards. Even though I wasn't that impressed with Depp in the lead, the actors do a great job—far better than Keanu's English accent or Ryder's dull delivery—and William Dafoe steals every scene. Defiantly earns the R rating, so fair warning, but I really wish Hollywood made more films like this.

I had hoped it would be just this.

Cross on Amazon is pretty solid.

7.6/10
I enjoyed it as long as I could disconnect it from the actual character in the books. I’ve read about a dozen of the books, though, and this character is nothing like the character in the books. Tyler Perry was a much better Alex Cross. The dialogue was nothing like how Cross spoke/acted in the books, either.

I had similar expectations and was very pleased that they were not only met but exceeded. Eggers really understands the artistry of film. However, please note that the film does earn its R rating and not just from the violent themes. There are scenes with nudity and one of a sexual nature but it was not done in an erotic way like the 90’s Dracula portrayed. The vampire in this film is pure evil, uncaring, and a force that devours all in his path.

I couldn’t care less about the new Supergirl movie but the news dropped today that Jason Momoa will play Lobo in it.

It’s an absolute perfect casting choice and he should be amazing in that role. If you aren’t aware of Lobo and his character, do yourself a favor and check him out, he always provides wild story rides. This casting will ensure I check this movie out.
