Mikael Torpegaard is the #1 rated player in the country, he's the #1 seeded player in the NCAA tournament and he has been The Ohio State University's juggernaut in tennis, leading the Mighty Buckeyes to a dominating record in the Big 10 since he arrived in the U.S. two years ago. A 6' 4" sophomore from Virum, Denmark, Torpegaard was one of the top junior players in the world, and has been showcased at Wimbledon, Roland Garros, Flushing Meadows and the Australian Open. Last year, he was the Big 10 Freshman of the Year, the ITA Midwest Region Freshman of the Year and TOSU Scholar-Athlete of the Year. This year, he already has over 30 singles W's, easily dispatching various Murderers Row Big 10 players as well as numerous others from the Little Sisters of the Poor of the hoi polloi. He is a virtual lock for Big 10 Most Outstanding Player; tearing through the conference like a blitzkrieg. Today after destroying Wake Forest's Petros Chrysochos 6-3, 6-0, he expressed confidence on easily winning the NCAA's saying that he had "the wind at his back." With teutonic flair and a strong Aryan background, the Dominant Dane has been ranked #1 in the country for most of the year. Against Cameron Norrie, from lil ol TCU, it is truly a Godzilla v. Bambi match-up.
For those who favor underdogs, Norrie (the first TCU player to ever reach the NCAA singles semi-finals) is clearly the rooting choice!
