Mikael Torpegaard is the #1 rated player in the country, he's the #1 seeded player in the NCAA tournament and he has been The Ohio State University's juggernaut in tennis, leading the Mighty Buckeyes to a dominating record in the Big 10 since he arrived in the U.S. two years ago.  A 6' 4" sophomore from Virum, Denmark, Torpegaard was one of the top junior players in the world, and has been showcased at Wimbledon, Roland Garros, Flushing Meadows and the Australian Open.  Last year, he was the Big 10 Freshman of the Year, the ITA Midwest Region Freshman of the Year and TOSU Scholar-Athlete of the Year.  This year, he already has over 30 singles W's, easily dispatching various Murderers Row Big 10 players as well as numerous others from the Little Sisters of the Poor of the hoi polloi.  He is a virtual lock for Big 10 Most Outstanding Player; tearing through the conference like a blitzkrieg.  Today after destroying Wake Forest's Petros Chrysochos 6-3, 6-0, he expressed confidence on easily winning the NCAA's saying that he had "the wind at his back."  With teutonic flair and a strong Aryan background, the Dominant Dane has been ranked #1 in the country for most of the year.  Against Cameron Norrie, from lil ol TCU, it is truly a Godzilla v. Bambi match-up.

For those who favor underdogs, Norrie (the first TCU player to ever reach the NCAA singles semi-finals) is clearly the rooting choice!

Major rain delays.  But the women have now resumed and the men will probably start around 3:40 p.m.  Hopefully, they won't be moved indoors.

After several rain delays and a move indoors, Cameron Norrie lost to Mikael Torpegaard today 3-6, 4-6.  He fought back and got a key break in the 2nd set, but couldn't sustain it.  He was the first Frog ever to advance in the NCAA singles competition to the semi-finals.

Congrats to Torp and best of luck in the finals!  We'll get em next year!

Final singles and doubles rankings came out today.

Norrie ends the season at #3. Have to imagine that may be the highest ranking ever for a TCU player.

Rybakov ends at #21 (Norrie finished at #25 last season) and Nunez at #87

Stalder and Blake end at #44.

Good news is that (hopefully) all of these guys are back next year. I guess Norrie is probably a 50/50 at this point.

The Mexican Tennis Federation announced  a couple of days ago that they had selected a new Captain for the Mexican Davis Cup team and it is none other than TCU Coach David Roditi!  They've had some high level executive changes and the new guys all knew Roditi really well, and they also conducted a vote of the 8 top Mexican pros, and a majority selected Roditii as their preferred choice.  This will be a part-time position and is only applicable to the match scheduled in Lima in July against Peru, but afterwards, they will sit down with Roditi and see if it can work long-term.  Roditi made it clear that TCU is his first priority.  This is (apparently) the first time ever that a college coach has been selected as the head of a Davis Cup team.  Roditi played for the Mexican National team in the 1990's, but since 1997, Mexico has been relegated to the lowest level in Davis Cup and hasn't produced a Top 300 pro player in two decades.  Obviously, they are thinking that Roditi might begin to change that.  Roditi's U.S. counterpart is Jim Courier, who recently took over after the long-time tenure of Patrick McEnroe.

This is yet another indication of how highly regarded Roditi is around the country and the world.  While playing on the Mexican National Team, he played Davis Cup at a match in Peru and he "remembers it well" because it was highly contested and the crowd was crazy and threw some bottles and coins when there was controversy.  The contacts and experience gained from captaining a Davis Cup team are incalculable.  Commenters at collegetennistoday are saying that Davis Cup is "perfect" for Roditi and he has said that Davis Cup is like the "Roditi rule" times a thousand.  Others have said that TCU would "kill" the Mexican Davis Cup team and that Roditi is "taking a step down" in competitive level.  I'm not so sure but it is quite likely that TCU will start next season very highly ranked, as the recent ITA Kickoff Draft revealed (we'll host Utah State, Wichita State and Pacific next January).

In an event, Felicidades a David Roditi y en Julio, a Peru, Viva Mexico!  Vamanos!
