New AD may be inbound

Who is the GM? We actually have one? Because I did not see it in the staff listing. Guess I could have missed it.
Jay Fields. He’s general manager of Horned Frogs Sports Properties….that may be why it didn’t come up. I’m not sure how that integrates into the athletic department but he’s our guy or as close to our GM guy as we’ve got as it stands now.

Maybe this new AD hires a new one? The old GM left for Nebraska sometime last year and it looks like the athletic department went in a more corporate/media integration direction with Fields.

The complainers are looking for someone with extensive NIL experience.

You know, like as much as 3 1/2 years, since it began in July of 2021.
This!!!! Who really has experience with NIL since it’s fairly new. He was at a place that NIL was non existent, so who knows what he can do with having resources.

Why do you hate Sonny so much? 27-13 isn’t too bad, is it? How many B12 coaches have a better record than that over the past 3 years?

I don't hate Sonny.

Just saying its a different deal not working for the guy that hired you. I think he would agree.

Do you think there are more big money alumni at TCU or West Point? Where is fundraising easier?

Do you think it's easier or more difficult to compete at TCU, where you have a broad range of recruits and access to NIL money, or at Army, where the talent pool is extremely restricted and NIL not allowed?

You can complain about the guy all you want but I'm assuming that you're complaining not based on any knowledge of who he is and what he's accomplished.

He worked in athletics at Wake Forest, then was AD at Furman, then AD at Army.

Keeping a good coach is exactly what a good AD does. Dealing with the portal is not an AD function.

Give the guy a chance, then you can [ hundin] about him later. This board couldn't stop bitching and moaning about our last AD; now you start with the new guy before he lands in FW.
Yea, because it’s a miss hire.

Why would we need a "splash hire"? I couldn't name five AD's in all of college athletics, and wouldn't know who would be a splash hire.

Who would be a splash hire in your opinion?
Was Donati a “splash hire?” I don’t think Del Conti was a splash hire other than Rice athletics had improved under him.

To me it looks like Buddie is creative and very capable. Looks like a CDC type of hire. TCU could use a jolt of fresh air- if he can do it at Army I think that speaks very highly for him.

I think that he has not navigated the NIL world is a legitimate question. He will have to prove himself in that area. I am sure he has all the other tools and skills.
How hard can it be? AD to people with lots of money: Give us $20 mil to distribute to some 18 year old kids who haven't done anything to deserve it.

I think we were right in the middle of navigating the role of NIL donors, prior to JD leaving. We have committed to the highest level of revenue sharing. NIL is still developing. It’s not like JD had it all figured out. Buddie looks like a winner.

That phrase "the highest level of revenue sharing" somehow sounds familiar and seems to refer to some kind of standard or guideline. Is there a number, a percentage, a maximum, a limit that is an industry "highest level?" Or is it limited to as much as can be scraped together or promised by an institution and its supporters?
