I think Dykes will probably be replaced relatively soon but I also don't think there's a guy out there who will a) work any kind of magic, or b) won't leave at his first chance if he does. If the standard is playoff appearances (and being competitive in the playoff), being a TCU football fan is asking for a whole lot of frustration, because that bar is not being reached again. As for developing players, that doesn't matter a whole lot anymore, don't have time to. Gotta have a slew of bought and paid for kids ready to play right away.I wanted Tony Elliott over Sonny Dykes but I am not giving up on Dykes. The defense is new and may improve this year as players become more comfortable in it. Hoover was a good recruit and has developed well. The 2022 and 2024 classes are good on paper according to recruiting rankings. Have hope and hang in there! At this point it is the best option and may work out well.
Patterson won with defensive scheme and being a good talent evaluator on recruiting speed and athletic ability on defense and offense and developing players (coaching them up). We need to see all of that from Dykes.
Dykes did take us farther than any other coach in the last 80 years, so he'll always have that.
