247 Sports: TCU four-star true freshman QB Hauss Hejny expected to enter transfer portal

It has to be a combo of two more years behind Hoover and then competing against Schobel.

Lord forbid TCU take another QB next year and Schobel decides to leave.

You are supposed to get one a year, at least that used to be the standard.

Well that’s too bad, but I understand it. He wants to play.
He wants to get paid. AD’s, coaches, players, politicians too. Those of us that are loyal to anything other than ourselves are suckers or even worse…LOSERS in today’s Merica.

What did he expect? To beat out Hoover his true freshman season?

Or probably just wants to test the market since there's plenty of $$$ around.
Do you think he's going to beat him out in either of the next 2 years? The odds are not in his favor of doing so and he can't rely on the possibility of someone getting injured.

This is the way it's going to continue to go. There's no such thing as "frog factor" or TCU "lineage" in the transfer portal/NIL era. Nobody is going to wait 3 years for their opportunity to POSSIBLY start if they feel they have better chances to play elsewhere just bcuz their parents went to the same school. The only way to minimize this is to back to making them sit a year after transferring.

I've said this before and people didn't like it, but it's true. There's no such thing as competition for the starting position if the starter is already solidified. You're opportunity is only going to come if the starter gets injured. And in both cases that people used to combat my theory (Max and Hoover), they only became starters bcuz of injury. People don't want to hear it, but if Chandler doesn't get hurt in 2022, Max never starts and the same goes for Hoover. 18 year-old kids are not waiting 3 years for the possibility of someone getting injured.

Until they end the Dec TP and put some constraints on NIL, this issue will be one of the worst problems everywhere. 0 consequences for players, non stop problems for EVERY school out there.

Was I supposed to type something here?
What was that Tom Petty tune? Oh, yeah!

The Old Rules no longer apply. There is a reason a lot of the older coaches are quite content to blather on TV: loyalty, honor, and team are concepts as dead as Caesar. Between the horrors of Social Media, and the money-waving Boosters ("Nobody out-Grovers Big Ed when he gets that look in his eye."), those old impulses don't stand a chance. And this is a terrible pity...

IMG_7686.jpegThat doesn’t sound like a lot since there 134 FBS teams, which doesn’t even count guys like the ones from Idaho or Incarnate Word.

…and I looked it up, last year there was around 2700 transfers in D1 which includes FBS and FCS or about 300 teams.
Actually this appears to be the correct portal stats according to On3:

Okay, take the verbiage fwiw, but supposedly “people around him” weren’t happy with the way he was being utilized and not being given the opportunity to throw the ball.

A lot red flags in that statement if true. Also our staff wants to throw the ball. If they are not letting him throw, there is probably a really good reason.

If he really thinks he deserves/deserved more playing time as a true freshman, or if he suddenly became scared of having to compete against Schobel, well that seems to indicate an attitude that I wouldn’t really want in TCU’s qb. It certainly doesn’t indicate any Max Duggan-ness.

And heck, a transfer might actually be good for him considering how much pressure was gonna be on him by so many already worshipping him and thinking he was gonna be the can’t miss super star for TCU.

Those "people around him" need to take a hard look at Antwan Randel El's and Julian Edelman's college and pro careers. Hejny's release point is more similar to Randel El and Edelman's than Russ Wilson or Flutie.

I get wanting to start and play, but there is value with learning to play behind someone. Too many want instant gratification. I also think many want the allure of being the #1 QB, The problem is there are a limited number of those spots. I remember a great story of a player that only wanted to play one position. The problem was there were others better than him on the team. Had he let the coaches use his talents elsewhere he would have had countless opportunities.
Manning has ridden the Pine in preparation. You have to pay homage to those who came before you.
