247 Sports: TCU four-star true freshman QB Hauss Hejny expected to enter transfer portal

Getting a chance to play builds more experience making him more valuable for the future rather than riding the pine for a couple of years hoping for a chance.

If he really thinks he deserves/deserved more playing time as a true freshman, or if he suddenly became scared of having to compete against Schobel, well that seems to indicate an attitude that I wouldn’t really want in TCU’s qb. It certainly doesn’t indicate any Max Duggan-ness.

And heck, a transfer might actually be good for him considering how much pressure was gonna be on him by so many already worshipping him and thinking he was gonna be the can’t miss super star for TCU.
You know how friends & family are around a hometown athlete. In general, those people feel Hejny wasn’t given any shot to show his arm. It’s just a little butt hurt from overly attached fans.
I‘m sure coaches had very serious discussions with all the players regarding their direction and expectations.
Hejny has great legs and a decent to good arm, but he’s not good enough to bet the next 2 years on him at QB. Even if Hejny ran for 1,000, which is doubtful, he can’t throw for 3,000. (Jennings-SMU 14 games 3,000 yds)
Right now, Hoover delivers 4,000 yds passing in 13 games at 55% passing.
At 60% passing he goes to 4,400, and we’ll still have 25-30 rushing attempts per game. If those rushing attempts are at 4.5 ypc, that’s another 1,500 yds.
(Note: Battle and Payne together averaged 4.4 ypc this year behind our crappiest O-line this century)
If TCU went with Hejny, instead of Hoover, none of that is even remotely possible.

Manning has ridden the Pine in preparation. You have to pay homage to those who came before you.

His family knows what it takes to be a QB. Heck, I don't even know how ready he would be to be a full time starter. They treat him like a wildcatter too. Yesterday, there were a couple of times they could have easily had him throw as stacked as the box was when he was in and Sark still only ran him.

I just think it is no coincidence that Schobel looked like he was already a better passer on Thursday and Henjy hits the portal right away.

I get wanting to start and play, but there is value with learning to play behind someone. Too many want instant gratification. I also think many want the allure of being the #1 QB, The problem is there are a limited number of those spots. I remember a great story of a player that only wanted to play one position. The problem was there were others better than him on the team. Had he let the coaches use his talents elsewhere he would have had countless opportunities.
Look at manning at Texas. Bet you the years he sat will help him succeed. Even though he is a different talent but many talented QB who start year one fail.

As desperate as we were after the Houston game, do you think he’s really not on the field if he can ball with big dudes?
Wish him well , but he got hurt on a simple play. There’s grown a$$ men out there , people
He didn't play late in the season because he was redshirting. Only had some many games he could play.

You are exactly right about what his friends and family expect of the situation with him. I’ve been in the restroom and at least one occasion and I overheard a guy with Hejny jersey and others close to him complaining about his situation. He and others around him felt like Hejny should be the on the field and that Hoover is not any good.

Mensah from Tulane just transfered there. Don't see Hejny beating him out.
You are right. I saw the Mensah kid over the entire Kansas State game and a bit of other games. Mensah is a likely draftable QB if put in the right situation over next couple years.

I would put HH at RB/IR/OR and give him the ball a ton. Similar to what SW does now. Tell him he could make all conference and be right there if Hoover gets hurt.

He and his posse should realize he's not going to unseat a 4000yd passer.
