Which college football programs bring in the most TV viewers?

Numbers 71 thru 80. Did someone say that Rutgers brings home the bacon for the BIG?

  1. Wake Forest (398K)
  2. Temple (354K)
  3. Kansas (346K)
  4. Oregon State (295K)
  5. Rutgers (266K)
  6. Tulsa (265K)
  7. SMU (232K)
  8. Colorado State (130K)
  9. Fresno State (127K)
  10. Wyoming (126K)
Man I liked that ranking but hated the article. The guy opens it by saying TCU was ranked 24th because their numbers were skewed due to playing a game vs. Ohio State. However, the numbers were averaged over five full seasons of games, so at least 60+ data points. So the Ohio State game represented 1/60th of our data points.

Also fails to point out that it was Ohio St's third most watched game of the regular season.

Every team gets boosted by their big giant conference member. Ohio state inflates all Big 10 teams. Bama inflates SEC. Texas and OU inflated big 12 teams even TCU to be fair. That argument against TCU is stupid.

fairly certain penn state, iowa, wisconsin, and michigan draw a fair share of their own viewers

same for uga, auburn, florida, lsu, texas atm...

You'd probably be guessing wrong.

Bottom line is, if TCU is so popular in this market, we wouldn't be in the position we are in, just desperately trying to remain relevant.

I'm guessing TCU must really be trying hard.

Found these numbers posted on the Big 12 board:

Guys TCU is what TCU is. No we are not Ohio State and we damn sure are not Rutger's Hot Dogs. But we are far from that school that was left out at the end of the SWC. We have established brand that is recognized and believe it or not respected. Can we compete.... hell yes! We can and will attract more fans by winning again. This new era will do just that for us. Disregard the naysayers as we proved them wrong years ago. We have everything in place to be what we desire to be and now so does the Big 12.

Sure but the results for each of the schools you named would have also been positively skewed by their game vs Ohio State.

which of those schools don't have similarly sized fan bases?

you are telling me that penn state vs michigan doesn't draw many viewers? what about uga -florida or auburn vs lsu?

the tcu-ohio state game is the epitome of an outlier no different than than tcu-baylor game last year when there was a weak long debate of had gary been treated properly in the dfw media

tcu can squeeze some damn revenue out of its ticket holders with the suites and donation requirements, but that doesn't put one penny in the pocket of the networks and if it isn't apparent that is what matters in all of this i don't know what to tell you.

Or what about Rutgers, who plays penn State, Ohio state, Michigan and Michigan state each fall?? And that doesn’t include the years they also get Nebraska or iowa or wisconsin?

as has been pointed out repeatedly, one value that rutgers brought to the big 10 as well as maryland is the opportunity to push for the inclusion of the big 10 network in a market it might not be available. those carriage fees provide could provide a significant source of additional revenue
