TCU men announced their 2024-2025 schedule last week, along with a late transfer.

The senior transfer is Lewis Wright, an Englishman who played at Long Island University the past three seasons. He is ranked outside the top 1000 in WAGR but had five top-5 finishes in the past 12 months. Not a splashy signing but a veteran presence (5 of 9 on the roster are freshmen), so he may compete for playing time.

The U.S. signees played a light AJGA schedule this spring/summer, so hard to know what kind of form they'll be in.

The fall schedule has the Frogs in Seattle, San Antonio, Fort Worth, Houston and Maui. Spring destinations include Puerto Rico, Vegas, San Francisco, Houston and Morgantown. Not quite as many deep fields as in years past.

The women have yet to announce their schedule but the incoming class is strong, so they should have fewer depth issues this season.

Go Frogs!

Do they have time to do a bit of exploring in those cities?
I'm tempted to say that the portal is accessible from anywhere.

The honest answer is, "I don't know." The only social posts I've seen have been from the women, who often wrap sightseeing around a tournament on the shoulder of Spring Break.

Maybe someone else knows?

McGovern was -1 through 16 holes and in the top 10 of the 156-player field before finishing double-double. She's still in position to advance to match play, but her margin of error is slim.

Update: McGovern shot 78 in round 2; she missed match play by 1 stroke. Former Frog Macnab got into the 20-for-10 playoff for the last few match play spots but did not advance.

I would expect so. Years ago, we did a Golden Gate / Fisherman’s Wharf sightseeing side trip during a tournament at Olympic. And the travel budget back then was tiny compared to now.

If you arrive early for a tournament — say on Saturday for a Monday start — the host course is not always available for practice, and if it is, it’s later in the day. They either have member play or resort play going on. That leaves some time to take in sights.

Ravetto with a win.

Just caught up to this. David shot 30 on the front nine yesterday to grab control of the tournament. He closed with a 64 for a 4-shot win--his first at the top level in Europe.

Huge for him. First, he pockets $427,000. There's also some bonus money that he'll get for finishing in the top 10 of the 5-event Closing Swing.

Second, he earns exemption for next season (he had been ranked 103rd on the Race to Dubai list, which meant he was still grinding to stay in the top 110 to keep his card.

Third, he's now ranked 30th, which ensures entry into the season-ending DP World Tour Championship in Dubai.

Fourth, he moves from 371st in the world rankings to 176th.

Former Frog Jacob Skov Olesen was invited to play in the DP World Tour's Danish Golf Championship following his British Am title. Through three rounds, he is solo 3rd and three shots off the lead.

The European Tour has only had 3 amateur winners in its history; the last was Shane Lowry in 2009.

Olesen finishes T5 in Denmark. That may get him into next week's tournament (British Masters) if the Eurotour handles things like the PGA Tour used to.

But Olesen wasn't even the low (former) Frog in the field. He was overtaken by Ravetto, who shot a final-round 67 to finish solo 4th and move up to 24th on the points list. That should solidify his place in the season ending Dubai moneyfest.

Three former Frogs are competing in the LPGA Q-Series pre-qualifier, where 325 players play 72 holes to earn one of approximately 95 slots in the fall Q-Series, which leads to Symetra Tour status and LPGA status for a few.

Lois Lau was T4 through three rounds and finished T17. Quite a showing in a huge field of pros and top ams.

Sabrina Iqbal entered the final round in iffy shape but birdied her final hole to finish T80, one shot better than the qualifying cut line of +1.

Greta Bruner started the day on the wrong side of the line at +2 and was still there through 12 holes before finishing with a flurry of 4 birdies to advance at -2 (T60).

Congrats to all three--Lois is the only one of the three who hasn't yet turned pro; if I remember right, she has to drop her amateur status to take part in the Q Series.

TCU women kick off their season tomorrow in style at Pebble Beach in the Carmel Cup, courtesy of Fin Ewing III, who invites his favorite colleges.

The event is a 6-count-5 format, which has the advantage of letting coaches see more players in early-season competition, and it rewards roster depth. That tends to be in short supply in women's college golf and especially for TCU, which only rosters 7 players.

Kirstin Angosta, who broke out last season, will play #1 after shooting -5 over 54 holes in the qualifier. The second and third spots go to freshmen Camille Min-Gautier and Gracie McGovern, who kick off their college careers on an iconic course in a pairing with a top-30 amateur. (I would be surprised if Pebble didn't feature prominently in Coach Larkins' recruiting pitch.)

Winans, Sa, and Dimitrova get slots 4-6. Sa has been a strong performer on difficult courses, but Pebble can be set up at varied levels of difficulty, so hard to know what they'll be getting.

The Frogs come in with the lowest ranking from last season among the 8-team field. With a strong freshman class, TCU could surprise, though it will be harder with 5 counting scores.

Megan Winans cruised around the Monterey Peninsula in -3 today, good for solo 5th. Great start for her. The other Frogs weren't great, but good enough for 5th place, best of the Big 12 participants. The SEC (less new member OU) shot 88 shots better on aggregate).

TCU women had their best round of the Carmel Cup today, shooting +10 as a team, which was the 3rd-best score of the day. They came up a shot shy of chasing down Okie Light for 5th, but a lot of good things to take away from the weekend.
1. They finished closer to 1st than to 7th, dusting OU and Tech by 36 and 41 shots, respectively.
2. Megan Winans finished 9th individually--her first collegiate top-10...and top-20...finish in her 27th collegiate start. Seems like her game has improved significantly.
3. Sofia Barroso Sa and Gracie McGovern also finished in the top 20. When you get top-20s from the 3-4-5 spots, your team has potential.
4. Four Frogs posted a round of 73 or better on a course where the field average was 76.2.

This team will be worth keeping an eye on.

Also, shout out to cup-of-coffee Frog Jeong Weon Ko, who finished solo 4th at the British Masters. (Frogs on the Euro tour leaderboard is quickly becoming a regularity.) Ko wins 175 grand and moves up 38 spots on the points list.

I just learned that Oleson spent his last year at Arkansas. I don’t know why I didn’t know this. He’s got a lot of game.
Yes. In his last 2 seasons at TCU, his scoring averages were 74.1 and 72.4. In his season at Arky, he averaged 69.9, which was the best statistical season in school history. He had 10 straight top-15 finishes. So, he developed at TCU and made a big leap after leaving.

Some consider outbound transfers to be not worth mentioning, but I think anyone who earns a degree should be considered a lifelong Frog. Olesen earned his TCU degree in communication studies. Sabrina Iqbal is a similar case on the women's side.

TCU men kick off their fall slate tomorrow at Sahalee in Washington, the home of corridor golf.

Playing for the Frogs will be returnees Ethan Dial and Toby Wilt, Florida transfer Joe Pagdin, freshman Charlie Wylie, and in the #1 slot...a player never before mentioned in a TCU golf thread: Scott Roden. Surprise!

Back in July, the Frogs announced two transfer signees, Pagdin and Lewis Wright (Long Island). No mention of Roden. Not sure when he showed up on the roster. Not sure where he's been the past 3 seasons. But long ago, he was a Highland Park phenom who committed to Texas as an 8th grader. He was the individual 5A champ as a freshman, and led the Scots to 3 state titles. A top-10 national recruit as a senior, he went to Austin and disappeared. Didn't play as a freshman, and after that COVID-shortened season he no longer appeared on the Horns' roster.

Maybe we'll hear about where he's been since (@First Tee Frog ?) , but I couldn't find much online. If TCU's been trying to keep him under the radar, that's about to change. Golf recruiting specialist Ryan Frazer noticed Roden, and Golf Channel's Brentley Romine retweeted.

Anyway, he's now a TCU senior and could be very good. Will be interesting to see how the Frogs play...it's a 12-team field, with 7 top-20 teams from last season. 36 holes on Saturday; 18 Sunday.
