TCU Golf 2023-2024

At nationals, Vilips finishes T8; Ege T18. Those two and Frimodt will likely be 9-10-11 in the rankings Wednesday...but who knows in what order.
Match play is going to be really good at LaCosta. Lots of opportunities for big scores to creep in there, especially if matches get to 15+ holes. The stroke play was really fun to watch yesterday.

Final PGA Tour University standings, per Golf Channel's broadcast:
9. Gustav Frimodt
10. Karl Vilips
11. Mats Ege

Frimodt earns conditional Korn Ferry Tour status. Congrats to him!

Angela Stanford successfully defends her LPGA Senior Championship title. Down a stroke at the turn against longtime rival Cristie Kerr, Angela made four birdies coming in to win by 3. Congrats to her!

Dramatic for sure. All four lower seeds win in the quarters, with a couple of late collapses from top players. Austin Greaser was 2 up through 13 but lost 4 straight holes to Luke Clanton to sink the Tarheels hopes, and Gordon Sargent loses 17, 18 & 19 with bogeys to earn Vandy an early exit.

Edit: In the afternoon semi-finals, Clanton again was 2 down through 13 and again won 4 holes in a row to win 2&1. Maybe even more impressive was that the nines were switched so it was a completely different set of holes.

Think we are gonna see some movement soon in portal both in and out for the men
The same day @First Tee Frog posted this, TCU signed Florida transfer Joe Pagdin, a former #1 AJGA junior and 2021 SEC freshman of the year.

As new talent rolled into Gainesville, Pagdin became less of a mainstay in the lineup and redshirted in the Gators' national championship season last year. He appeared in two tournaments this year and had top-20 finishes in both. He's close with Ian Poulter's family.

Golf's longest day today. Lots of pros and some amateurs competed for the last set of U.S. Open slots. Hayden Springer shot -5 in Ontario and missed out by 3 shots. Paul Barjon missed by 8. In Georgia, Jack Beauchamp shot +5 and missed by more.

Among the collegians who earned a spot: Fla. State's Kjettrup and Clanton, UCLA's Morales, Illinois' Buchanan, UVa's James, Vanderbilt's Williams. Several others just missed out.

Meanwhile, a 29-year-old science teacher at a high school near me earned one of 2 spots in Oregon. Love the U.S. Open.

Wow -- congrats to former Frog Jacob Skov Olesen for winning the R&A's Amateur Championship, one of the top trophies in amateur golf. In stroke play at Ballyliffin, he finished T21 in a 288-man field. In match play, he had close calls in the round of 16 (a 20-hole win) and in the quarters when he was 2 down to Tech's Calum Scott with 4 to play and won 3 straight holes to flip the match. He beat Duke's Luke Sample in the semi's and Stetson's Dominic Clemons in the final, 4 & 3.

The highlights from the final are worth a watch. Jacob qualifies for the Open Championship next month as well as next year's Masters. Congrats to him!

Tom Hoge is the leader in the clubhouse at Travelers after a final-round 62. The score likely won't hold up as the leaders play the last 5 holes, but a top-5 finish looks likely.

And in Amsterdam, Filippo Celli earns his first top-10 finish on the DP World Tour (T10). He must like the course; he finished T12 last year. That tournament accounts for 40% of his earnings over two years as a pro.

Kirsten Angosta and Megan Winans both shot 73 today to finish T13 in stroke-play portion of the Texas Amateur. Both advance to match play. I think tTomorrow's round of 32 has Winans playing Xavier U soph Darrelyn Webster Vandy's Meghan Meserole and Angosta facing Flower Mound freshman Honorine Nobuta FerryA&M's Lauren Nguyen.

Angosta loses, 2 down. Winans wins, 2&1. She gets top-seeded Tillie Claggett next, then a likely matchup with two-time champ Emma McMyler. I guess once you're into the top 16 they're all tough.

Update: Winans was 1 up through 16, but Claggett closed birdie-birdie to win 1 up.

Congrats to Lois Lau and incoming freshman Camille Min-Gaultier, who both made match play in the R&A's Women's Amateur Championship at Portmarnock this week. Lau was T45 in stroke play and lost to the #4 seed in the first round of match play. Min-Gaultier was T10 in stroke play and won two matches before exiting in the round of 16.

Min-Gaultier has been on a tear this summer, posting 3 wins and a runner-up finish in various European all-ages tournaments. She was ranked 594 in WAGR when she signed but is up to 225th, and the T9 finish this week will move her up further (edit: now 195 mid July). Great to see.

Andrew Petruzzelli becomes (at least) the second Frog to advance through local qualifying for the U.S. Amateur, earning one of 10 spots from a nearly 100-player field in Hattiesburg. Andrew shot -5 on the front nine, then hung on for dear life. His 69 got him into a 9-for-5 playoff and he came through.

Thanks for the heads up. You had mentioned that we had some transferring, and I wondered if Petruzzelli was among them. I quickly googled him but should have scrolled a bit to see that he'd landed elsewhere.

You also mentioned players possibly arriving via the portal. Is anyone else expected beyond Pagdin?
