Here's what I've been watching lately:

The Union (Netflix): Spy action/comedy with Mark Wahlberg and Halle Berry

The Instigators (Apple TV+): Matt Damon/Casey Affleck heist movie where everything possible goes wrong. Fun watch.

Find Me Falling (Netflix): Rom/com with Harry Connick Jr. Watch with your spousal unit/SO. You might get lucky.

Slow Horses (Apple TV+): Gary Oldman heads a "dumping ground" department of misfits. Plot covers "Spy vs Spy within MI-5" as well as espionage plots. Two seasons available now; third season comes out in Sep.

Respectfully disagree. I found all HL seasons to be entertaining & watchable. I don’t recall but didn’t HL have multiple directors? Side note, if you enjoy another version then try the Brits but only on BBC or DVD box set—spooks originally in the UK or MI5 in USA. One caveat: do Not get attached to Any character. Brits don’t sugar coat.
Disagree with Chongo's review. Stick with it. The journey of Claire Danes is complicated, but worth watching to the end. IMHO, of course.
That’s exactly why I couldn’t handle it. Her character was too neurotic and annoying for me.

It’s just called, “The Brits.”? Or it’s called Homeland but done by the Brits?

Watched a remake of River Wild on a plane. I loved the original. The remake was almost unwatchable. No redeeming characters. Bad acting. Horrible plot line. Terrible ending. Not sure why they felt the need to remake a great movie. The original one had great river scenes. The new one spends only a small portion on the river. Overall, terrible movie. One of the worst I’ve seen in a while.

Rewatched Game Night recently. I think it’s a pretty solid comedy. I’m a Jason Bateman fan. He can be one dimensional, but I really identify with that dimension.

Actually, "Homeland" was based on the Israeli series Prisoners of War.

The program was acquired by 20th Century Fox Television before it aired in Israel and was adapted into the eight-season series Homeland for Showtime in the United States from 2011 to 2020.

In India, it was adapted as the 110-episode television series P.O.W. - Bandi Yuddh Ke.

In Russia, it was adapted into the TV series Rodina in 2015.

I can see that becoming an issue down the line. Basically why I never got into Seinfeld. That said, I love the cast so far.

I’ve seen quite a few Seinfeld episodes but generally was at an age where I was much more likely to be at a bar after work or playing on a softball league or something. I don’t believe I’ve ever seen a Friends episode for the same reasons.

We are of the same mind regarding Seinfeld.

I binge watched the entire Seinfeld series this summer.

With all the memorable and frequently used catch phrases used on this forum by you young'uns, I was amazed at actually how few and far between they were in the multi-year span of the show.

I suspect I’m going to do that someday, just to see what all the fuss was about. Probably after retirement. And that feels weird to think about, but I’ve kinda pencilled in 2036 and I know that’s gonna go a lot quicker than I expect.

It's a great thing to do when retired. Can't begin to list all the tv series I missed while working, that I've binge watched now as a gentleman of leisure.

I recently watched, for the first time, Burn before Reading. It is a 2008 Coen Brothers movie, and very true to their style. Not a No Country for Old Men, Fargo or Big Lebowski, for sure, but a really entertaining, very quirky movie in which all the main characters are really no good people at all.

Shakespear did a good summary for this movie: "It is a tale told by an idiot, full of sound and fury, signifying nothing."

Prince of Purpoole II

Reigning Smartarse
Coming up:

Moonflower Murders on PBS. If you have not seen the first of these check out Magpie Murders before you watch. These are brilliant adaptations of the Anthony Horowitz books. They are especially good bc Horowitz does the writing for TV as well.

The books are really good as well if you like mysteries and especially if you like Golden Age Mysteries.

So, watched Horizon, An American Saga.

I know some of y’all watched this and had mixed reviews. I enjoyed it but my main question is, what is the main point?…the plot line…the quest?

Is it just a grand ol’ general story of the settlement of the West? I mean, that’s what I think it is but again, not sure at all. Too many various stories that don’t seem to intersect although if they are really doing four movies, I assume they will intersect at some point.

Enjoyable movie but it kinda feels like you’re just sitting on the porch watching the breeze when watching this, if that makes sense.
