Recommend Rebel Ridge on NF. A dirty county sheriff revenge yarn in the Pusser/Walking Tall/ Burt Reynolds/Gator tradition. Gets a little wobbly on the tracks late but an easy watch.
Started it a few nights ago. Had high hopes because the civil forfeiture laws really make my skin crawl, but it really gave off some strong “made for TV” vibes. Didn’t finish it. Did they ever explain the Chinese restaurant connection?

edit. Walking Tall and Gator are great comparisons.

Have I missed the Bad Monkey/Apple TV reviews? I’m in for 2 of 7 episodes and have found it hilarious. The Vince Vaughn deadpan has grown on me over the years.
Yeah, that’s about where I am on it too. I like it. Reminds me a little bit of this British show my wife and I enjoyed on BritBox…Death in Paradise, though that was more like Law and Order, where each episode stands alone and doesn’t really carry a season-long story arc. I Hope they don’t start relying on vaughn’s deadpan delivery to carry all the laughs going forward though. I can see myself tiring of that just like I did with Ryan Reynolds’ schtick. But so far, yeah, i’m really enjoying it.

That’s exactly why I couldn’t handle it. Her character was too neurotic and annoying for me.
Her character was annoying, but intentionally so. She is a very good actress and was very good in that show. And I thought the show was damn good.

It does annoy me though that so many shows feel the need to give their main character some quirk. They make them neurotic or OCD or an alcoholic or depressed or fill in the blank. Most of the time it distracts from the plot, not enhances it.

So, watched Horizon, An American Saga.

I know some of y’all watched this and had mixed reviews. I enjoyed it but my main question is, what is the main point?…the plot line…the quest?

Is it just a grand ol’ general story of the settlement of the West? I mean, that’s what I think it is but again, not sure at all. Too many various stories that don’t seem to intersect although if they are really doing four movies, I assume they will intersect at some point.

Enjoyable movie but it kinda feels like you’re just sitting on the porch watching the breeze when watching this, if that makes sense.

I thought it was good; it was intense, it was well acted, there were good characters, etc… but I understand why some people didn’t love it.

To me it felt like the whole point of part 1 was to set you up for parts 2-4, not to be good on its own.

I will definitely watch all of them.

I never understood the Chinese restaurant connection outside a quick flashback of him bussing tables. I suppose he worked there and had a friendship with the shady proprietor. Not a very well developed subplot.
