Hoover, Wiley

Per GoFrogs:

*Josh Hoover became the second Power 5 quarterback (C.J. Stroud, Ohio State) since 2019 to pass for at least 400 yards in two of his opening five starts. He is also the first from the Big 12 to accomplish the feat since 2019.

*Hoover's 82.8 completion percentage (24-of-29) ranked sixth for a game in TCU history. He passed for 412 yards and two touchdowns with no interceptions.

*Hoover had a 3-yard touchdown run for his first career rushing score and a 22-yard carry for the second-longest run of his career.

*Jared Wiley set a TCU tight end record with his career-best 178 yards receiving. He set a career-high with seven receptions while tying another personal mark with two touchdowns.

*Wiley's 178 receiving yards are the most by a Big 12 tight end since at least 1996 and the most in a game nationally this season by a player at that position.

*Wiley's 81-yard touchdown catch was the longest reception of his career, surpassing his previous best of 52 yards against TCU while playing for Texas in 2020. He later added a 28-yard scoring grab.

Thats pretty cool. I would have thought that Mark Andrews had at least that many yards at some point. Sure seemed like he killed us all the time.

He had a 134 game against UTEP. His 4 games against us were 1 for 6, 1 for 15, 4 for 44 and 7 for 58 (but 2 big TDs in the Big 12 title game).

Damn he only had 3 100 yard games in his career. I wouldn't have guessed that. It felt like he was always making a big play for ou.

The confidence that Hoover has been cultivating these last few weeks with both Wiley and Williams is going to make next Friday's season finale in Norman an event to behold. I predict another breakout game through the air that will give the Sooner secondary fits. Can't wait!
I hope so because I've already paid so much money to sit with a Sooner pal right in the middle of all the most Soonery Sooners in that whole place.

I predict another breakout game on the ground as well.....got to believe in this game they're gonna give Josh the green light to scramble when necessary and probably have a few called running plays.

I thought I heard on the post-game that Hoover is one of three TCU quarterbacks to throw for at least 300 yards in four games in their first season??? Not sure I heard it exactly right. But in five games he has thrown for over 400 yards twice and over 300 twice.

From DCTF—
Dykes explained after the game that Baylor played its defensive tackles head up on the guards instead of in the gaps. By doing this, the Bears took away TCU's double teams on rushing attempts (the Horned Frogs finished the night with 3.3 yards per carry). But in college football, sometimes you give up something to get something, and TCU made them pay in the passing game.

Hoover had an excellent performance and deserves all the credit for bouncing back from a daunting stretch of games against Kansas State, Texas Tech and Texas. He piloted an offense that converted 9-of-11 third downs. But he acknowledged he wasn't feeling much heat in the pocket because TCU's offensive line manhandled Baylor.

"I could've sat down back there, got up, tied my shoes and still threw it 30 times," Hoover said.

How about that over-the-shoulder catch.

Hoover was laser-focused. Passes were crisp, always on target ( I can think of one incompletion that was a little back shoulder on a crossing route).

He seemed to see the field better, and he had excellent protection. Great pocket presence.

Hoover looked and played like a champion
He did have Williams open inside the DB on 3rd and goal on the second drive, but threw it too high. Nonetheless though, I agree he looked amazing. Hopeful he can duplicate that home success on the road next week.
