TCU loses four-star quarterback to rival SMU

By Steven Johnson

TCU’s recruiting class suffered a significant blow Wednesday as four-star quarterback Ty Hawkins flipped his commitment to rival SMU.

Hawkins had been committed to TCU over a year and was the second highest ranked prospect in the 2025 class. A top-150 prospect in the class, Hawkins was one of the best quarterbacks in the state the last two seasons at Johnson High in San Antonio.

Seems like crazy logic.
He says he wants to go to the ACC/SMU to be “the man” on day one, and play on big stages against big schools like Clemson, FSU, & Miami. …..but there’s at least a 50% chance they won’t be there in ‘25/‘26.

I'm sitting in my chair this morning, enjoying PBR...one bull, one man. I've always liked bull riding events but the last two, three years I've increasingly followed and enjoyed the sport. And during that same general time frame my enjoyment of college sports has waned...too much bull, too few grown-ups. Sadly, I don't anticipate that trend reversing any time soon.

Joke will be on them when BY gets the PE money and Clemson, FSU, Miami and other top ACC come to B12.

That and he's like 5th on the depth chart at QB there...

Think they lost capacity with the new end zone addition. 28k?
I just looked at the SMU website and it listed 32. But I imagine playing FSU/Miami/Clemson in front of 32 or 29 will be pretty similar.

FYI: The two largest crowds for a regular season game at Ford have TCU beating the Ponies. A&M came in 3rd and Tech 4th

Since he won't even get on campus until '25, he'd be a true freshman, even if he gets in the game. Plus, it would probably be fairly early in the season. Things could get pretty ugly for him rather fast if he doesn't have a veteran OL. After that, we don't even play them for however long it may be, and for him, maybe never.

That means he's not that confident in his abilities. Anyone who's "the man" would feel confident in his abilities no matter where he goes. If Hawkins (or any player) comes in and is such a stud, he's going to start playing from day 1. QB, DE, OL, no matter what position. Every position is open to competition every year, every day. Perform -- you play. Don't perform -- you wait your turn.

He also doesn't understand the slimy nature of recruiting. "Yeah, come play for us. We'll throw you to the wolves if that's what you want. I mean its just QB. That's not a difficult position. We'll start you on day one. You tha man!"
