Welcome to KillerFrogs, Yance. I completely get the desire to defend your program, as well as your coach. I do. We've had to do it when "reports came out" that we had an enormous drug ring being run campus wide by our entire football team. The cubbies down south of us defend Briles to the death, claiming that "reports of mass sexual assaults on campus by football players" were all made up by their BOR. Duke fans defended their lacross players when that escort claimed she had been sexually assaulted by the team. It's natural to defend something you have such close ties to, and in some cases, you might even be RIGHT to.
But with all due respect, I had a hard time taking your responses seriously. First of all, any official statement by a University used to refute an accusation of harboring and protecting an alleged spouse abuser that begins with, "We believe [Coach] Meyer" rings a little hollow in a lot of people's ears. Like, most of society's ears. And in that last highlighted part, they are essentially admitting that Meyer covered up for him, and in return they are covering up for Meyers. In their minds they are washing their hands of it and not being specific by stating, "multiple other examples of inappropriate conduct by Zach Smith while employed as an assistant football coach, some known by Coach Meyer and/or Gene Smith and others on the football staff...." By giving him a paid suspension, one in which he's allowed to still coach six days out of the week, Ohio State has stated that Urban Meyers has carte blanche to run his program how he sees fit, employing whomever he wants regardless of severe personal flaws that have potentially disastrous influences on 17-22 year-old men entrusted to his care.
Let me give you an example of how ludicrous those "We believe..." statements are: "I believe that Urban Meyers and Ohio State University protected Zach Smith because of his worth to recruiting, and in doing so, placed hundreds of young men under the influence of an emotionally and morally unfit deviant." Hey, I said "I believe," so it must be true, right?
If you can legitimately watch the press conference of Urban Meyers reading that lifeless, prepared statement and claim that he is accepting ANY responsibility whatsoever of his actions regarding keeping Smith on his staff, regardless of his (alleged) criminal activity and (proven) moral bankruptcy, then we'll just have to agree to disagree.
