Austin event with CGP and CDC

just got back.

CDC said we had between $70-80M raised and need $105M by the end of June (I believe) to start construction after this season.

CDC said he thought B10 would take ND or expand to (I can't remember if he said 14 or 16) in order to get the NYC tv market so they can make SEC-type tv money. Said he figured Pac10 would follow suit and we need to do the things now to be at the table (stadium and fan support) rather than do them after the fact like we did last time.

Gary hinted that he may have mislead a blogger about players' injuries and said they will be back for the fall (mentioned the name of one but not the other).

CGP also said the Andy for Heisman campaign had already started, whatever that means.

I agree with that. Also mentioned that he may have over-exaggerated (my word, not his, but to the same effect) the injuries in the spring. Specifically he mentioned Tank should be back and sounds like maybe Dwight too. Also made reference to this year's 6-6 comment after the bad spring practice and compared it to his last year's comment in the spring regarding having the worst defense (said this in a joking manner).

When asked about running backs said you can never have too many good ones.

CDC and Davis Babb said that the fundraising for the stadium had until end of May to hit the target. So far very good with $70-$80 million of the $105 million already raised. No nickels and dimes for this one. Entry level is $1 million. Big boy donor level is $15 million. They are looking for 6 and I think DB said they have 4 right now. DB said that construction would commence on west side and north endzone immediatly after season end and Armed Services would be moved to SMU. Said it would not be complete for 2011, but would for 2012. East side would cost another $30 million. North endzone gets a deck in this first phase.

So, we've got one for end of May, one for end of June. Anybody else there catch that? $25-35 million in two months sounds pretty do-able, one month might be tricky. I'm registered for the Premier Frogs Tailgate on May 13, so hopefully we'll get an update then.

I was talking to Davis Babb directly and he was very clear about end of May. Basically 2 more $15 million folks get us there. They have 4 and need 6 (also from Davis).

And if they don't have the money by the end of May?

He didn't say FD and I didn't have the opportunity to ask the question given the group that we were in. I will say that he seemed confident, as did CDC.

Construction is a no go after the year is up.

I thought CDC said June or July in his speech (actually both, but he was correcting himself and I don't remember the order), but I didn't talk with Babb about it. It very well may be May. No matter. I'm sure those in a position to give $1-15M know they date.

I imagine every thing would get pushed back a year and we wouldn't have a complete stadium when we host OU and UVa in 2012.

He did say they did some fundraising in Austin earlier today.

Regarding Tank and DS did he simply say back by Fall or did he get more specific. I was tol November on Tank. It may be in the OP but an advertisement cuts off the last couple inches when I visit via Blackberry. Fall is a very broad and generic timeframe.

Oh they don't want the $975,000 I was planning on giving?

It's over 5 years, so they are hoping you can scrape the extra $25,000 together.

I don't remember the exact phrasing, but he said he would be back for the season. The way he said it didn't make it sound like November at all. But I'll take your friend's insight over CGP's any day. November it is.

Time will tell I guess. The trainers and lead doc mentioned Nov but what do they know. I would say let's wager but you are too big a poose for that so we will wait and see.
