Oh my, how fun—baseball trivia, and today a first—
The Immaculate Inning—nine pitches, three strikeouts. There have only been 108 Immaculate Innings in MLB history with the most recent being Luis García and Phil Maton of the Houston Astros on June 15, 2022, which is also the first time it has happened twice on the same day, and in the same game, and to the same three batters—that will never happen again.
The Stros now have nine Immaculate Innings, to go with their 13 no-hitters.
There have been more in recent years. Garcia and Maton threw the second and third Immaculate Innings of 2022, joining New York Yankees lefty Nestor Cortes. There were five Immaculate Innings in 2021. At one point baseball went 25 years between Immaculate Innings (1928 to 1953).

Beating the Yankees is always like watching China and Russia go down…More crazy baseball trivia, Astros and Yankees—
The Yankees have only been no-hit twice since 1958, both times by the Astros, both times a combined no-hitter. The first was in 2003 in old Yankee Stadium with six pitchers, Kirk Saarloos pitching 1.1 innings.
Today in new Yankee Stadium, Christian Javier versus Gerrit Cole, and Javier goes seven hitless innings, 114 pitches. Hector Neris and Ryan Pressly finish the no-hitter. Stros win 3-0. And give Dusty Baker credit for letting Javier pitch the seventh. Astros lead the series 2-1, game four tomorrow.
Astros this year—
1. Tied a major league record with five homers in one inning. Five homers has happened 8 times In MLB history.
2. First team to pitch two immaculate innings in one game; and to the same three batters! Only 107 immaculate innings in MLB history.
3. First team to no-hit the Yankees in new Yankee Stadium, and the only team to since 1958.
