Yeah but no way I let a lefty reliever pitch to Bryant. I was on my way to the john figuring they'd walk Bryant and have the lefty face Rizzo.

Checking Conley’s numbers, lefties are actually hitting him better than righties.

He had Bryant in a 1-2 count...better pitch, they’re probably out of the inning.

And even at that...radar gun is saying 99 MPH on that pitch...it caught too much of the plate, but credit to Bryant for catching up to it.

New mock draft by Jonathan Mayo of MLB Pipeline...

Mock Draft: Top picks beginning to take shape

7. Reds: Nick Lodolo, LHP, Texas Christian

Sure, the Reds often like hitters this high, taking Jonathan India last year and Nick Senzel in 2016, so maybe they look at a Hunter Bishop here if none of the other bats get to them. But Lodolo has separated himself as the top arm in the class.

Yusei Kikuchi pitched a gem in Yankee Stadium....he also had a bunch of pine tar under his bill...

As Buster said, I can promise you hitters would rather have the pitchers have a grip on the ball instead of them having a ball slip straight to their head. A lot of pitchers will have “kits” they use. Arroyo uses a sun screen that he makes up that was different substances in it that all he does is touch his arm. Now that was a pretty terrible was by that pitcher to hide it.

Andddd they lost in extras

Yep. Cora pulled him at 108 pitches. Workman comes on in the 8th .... gives up an Iannetta double and a home run to Blackmon to tie it. Rockies end up winning in the 11th.

Would have been fun to see how many Sale could have gotten last night, but .....pitch counts.

Not that I mind seeing the Red Sox win-streak snapped at 5.

One more Keith Law slam towards TCU

Purke's non-signing is significant because it apparently was a casualty of the sale of the Rangers. In the interim before they were purchased, the Rangers were under the stewardship of MLB, which capped the amount Purke would be paid at the budgeted $4 million. Purke's camp thought it had agreed to a higher number and he didn't sign. This screwed pretty much everybody: The Rangers got an unprotected pick the next year, taking Jake Skole, who didn't pan out at all, while Purke was a star as a freshman at TCU but was worked very hard and ended up throwing only in the mid-80s by the end of his sophomore year.

The Reds are the popular mock draft destination for Nick Lodolo.

MLB Pipeline, Keith Law and Fangraphs all have him going there in recent mocks...

2019 MLB Composite Draft 1.0

7. Reds: Nick Lodolo, LHP, Texas Christian (MLB 7, ESPN 7)

https://blogs.fangraphs.com/mock-draft-2-0/
Mock Draft 2.0
Padres – Riley Greene, RF, Hagerty HS (FL)
GM A.J. Preller was seen at Abrams and Bleday games last week while he was in the southeast for draft meetings, and each would seem to be in play if they are still here. We think any of the first six hitters we have mocked here would be the favorite to go in a mix that also includes Arizona State OF Hunter Bishop, TCU LHP Nick Lodolo, and Kentucky LHP Zack Thompson, who have all been scouted heavily by the Padres down the stretch.

7. Reds – Nick Lodolo, LHP, TCU
The Reds are believed to be looking for a college player, ideally a bat, but have been connected mostly to the bats going ahead of them. We think they would take Vaughn if he got here, but we aren’t sure. In this scenario, they get their pick from among of all the pitching, and while Lodolo hasn’t been as good of late, he’s still seen as the favorite to go off the board first among the college arms.

2019 MLB Mock Draft Version 2

6. San Diego Padres | Nick Lodolo, LHP, TCU
If there’s a college pitcher who could entice the Padres it would be Nick Lodolo as he’s finally shown the consistency of his stuff this spring. This would mark the fourth straight draft where the Padres take a lefthanded pitcher in the first round joining Eric Lauer (2016), MacKenzie Gore (2017) and Ryan Weathers (2018).

2019 MLB Draft Mock Draft (v1)
1:8 Rangers: Nick Lodolo, LHP, Texas Christian

After turning down a reported $1.75 million from the Pirates in 2016 as the 41st overall pick, it appears likely the gamble on himself will pay dividends this June for the long and lanky southpaw. The 6-foot-6 lefty has a deep repertoire and has shown improved control this spring, cutting his walk rate in half, while showing impressive swing-and-miss stuff from a tough low slot. –BG

Of note, TCU commit Quinn Priester getting a lot of 1st round talk...

MLB Pipeline’s two mock drafters have had him at 18 and 21, Keith Law had him 26, Fangraphs 21.

Kiley McDaniel of Fangraphs tweeting from his game today...

Much like last year, the start of this season has been a struggle for Matt Carpenter.

May 16 was the date he got it going last season.

After starting the night 0-3, Carpenter hit a HR that will hopefully be start of another great run...
