Sounds like her predetermined favorite children's book will be:
Glad she did so well. That is not a minor surgery and she sounds like a real trooper. I suspect she was at Texas Children's at the Texas Medical Center. I know a lot of people there and it is a great place for these types of issues. Glad she is doing so well and a very cool story to remember the great news.
Thanks for the update and congrats to your whole family!
Thanks Doc, I appreciate it. And yeah, it's a major surgery. If she was born anytime in human history outside of this most recent era of modern medicine (50 years?), she would've just died because they couldn't diagnose/fix it.
Crazy to think about
And we were in the Med Center, but at Children's Memorial Hermann, not Texas Children's. They're both fantastic... one of my best friends has a 2.5 month old little girl that was born 3 lbs 3 oz and was just able to go home in the last month from TX Children's. They had great things to say about TCH.
I can't even put into words how fantastic everyone at Children's Memorial Hermann has been. Extremely competent, extremely specialized, and extremely caring/attentive. I couldn't recommend them any more highly to anyone that is put into a situation like that. We are lucky that's where we were set to deliver anyway (and live 6 miles from it)... there were families in the NICU with us from around the country that came there specifically because they needed the specialists at CMH for their child's condition.
I have a whole new respect for Labor & Delivery nurses and NICU nurses. Even though they do this every day and I imagine it's easy to get bogged down in the routineness of it all, every one of them treated Ruby (and us) with the attention they would treat a family member.
Sorry for going on and on about this, it's just my process and I'm still in a little shock from the whole thing.
GO FROGS!!
