Steel is a stats freak; numbers guy; goes back to time as a kid; Steel used to chart players daily in a spiral notebook; so, good stats guys who aren't tools have always earned Steel's fandom. As far as Steel knows, Jete has always conducted himself well, despite being in the cesspool of NYC media and also with the bonus of tapping a lot of hot Tang.

Steel is from St. Louis, so team-wise that is #1 and Rangers are #2 and everyone else, team-wise, don't matter. Except that Steel wishes the worst always on the Cubs, Brewers, Mets, Phillies and Angels. Steel hopes all their players die ina fiery plane crash and their fans all contract cancer. Especially the Cubs.

Steel hates PooHoles.

If a stats guy is a tool, then Steel will view him with the hatred of a thousand suns. But if he appears to be a good guy, then Steel will like him for his stats.

This is a baseball rule only, strangely. Football and basketball do not follow these rules at all. First of all, basketball, Steel could not care less about. Same for hockey.

Football, there are plenty of admirable players for whom stats are completely irrelevant. Steel tends not to follow "skill players" at all. Steel likes gritty players, such as Greg Lloyd, for example. James Harrison. Those types.
