Wait until you look at the rest of the schedule. Following the trend from the NBA and NHL, the number of intra-division games is the priority. The addition of Houston to the AL West along with a healthy schedule of interleague games means significantly fewer games against the AL East and Central teams. With the new schedule, those teams have a single home and home series with the Rangers of 6-7 games for the entire season. The offset is that the Rangers play division foes 19 times each. Want to see teams like the Yankees at the Ballpark, Tigers, Red Sox or Tampa Bay? There's just one 3 or 4 game series.

Not much different than years past. Some years they were already only playing 6 vs AL Central or East teams while playing others 9 times. So many were already only making 1 series visit to Arlington.

If they had a balanced schedule then divisions would be pointless. If they go to a balanced schedule then they need to dump the divisions and go to a 15 team AL table.
