I loved how the defense looked last night. Lots of pressure at the line and the LB and nickel would shoot gaps and blitz quite a bit and get home. The CBs looked like they played the ball really well when it was in the air. That’s been a pain for us for decades it seems. Now the question is that improvement a result of our ability or the limitations of Stanford…

On offense I’m not sure. Hoov looked a TON better than I think I was expecting. BUT anytime Stanford got pressure he would lose his feet and the ball would sail. (The one near InT he threw it almost looked like he threw to a completely wrong play call compared to the routes the 3 receivers were in.). The lack of running game last night was concerning and think that bites us this year at some point. Receivers were outstanding and fun to watch.

Got the win and I’m coming away happier than I thought I would before the game started. Glad to have football back

Meh, I'm usually overly optimistic but I really like this team. Saw a lot of good things and we can improve on a lot. That game could have easily been 34-3 with some better mental decisions
disagree with the above poster who said Hoover could not be great. I think he could be. Most of his passes were on target, and he is quick. Hand off fumble in the red zone hurt him. Am pretty optimistic. Penalties at first game level better not persist, though.

We looked strong on both sides of the ball. Too many dumb penalties and some bad play calls. But we have a good team. Just gotta fix the dumb stuff. Bad thing is that is offseason work. Good thing is we survived a Friday night game in Palo Alto. That place is haunted to good squads on a Friday.

Absolutely freakin' agree!!!!! It was fun to see a "Garyesk" aggressive defensive. Defensive Tackle intercepting a deflected pass ..... are you kidding Me!!!
It's hard to believe I haven't seen this mentioned before. Mitchell is a 315+ Pound DL. These guys do not have the ability to catch a deflect like that and MATRICULATE the ball 6-7 yards further.

I tried to find a clip of this. The way he jumped around and waved his arms - he looked like a (big) little kid!

I saw at least 4-5 drops from WR's where the ball hit them right in the hands. 2 from Savion and 2 from Richardon I recall.

We have some stuff to clean up and tighten up, and we got out with the “W”. Defense has taken major steps in the right direction, Hoov and WRs are solid. Time will tell where this season goes, but just enjoy that it has already started better than last year.

A big key will be how our OL handles the blitz. SMU & many others are going to blitz our ass off, especially if our running game is inconsistent. That was our Achilles heel last year.

Hoover & our WRs can make plays, but I am curious to see how we can handle aggressive defenses going forward.

Also, why was Hejny out there???
I could be wrong but I thought it gave a chance for Hoover to survey the Cardinal D, see their reactions, look for their tendencies and get back into the game with confidence. As I remember, Hoover bolted onto the field after those two Hejny plays.

This team is what every reasonable person expected they would be. Average. They might lean slightly above if they play great and get breaks. They might lean below average if they underperform and/or have key injuries. They likely are what they are.

I predicted 6-6 but that was heavily predicated on Hoover being the wild card. I’m not ready to modify my prediction yet bc of the sample size but I saw a much better QB vs Stanford. That coupled with what appears to be defensive improvement has me feeling much more optimism. OL remains an open question

We shall see
