Outside of the knuckle headed penalties I was very pleased with the defense and its aggressiveness. I could not stand the prior regimen and his commitment of not going after the QB.
disagree with the above poster who said Hoover could not be great. I think he could be. Most of his passes were on target, and he is quick. Hand off fumble in the red zone hurt him. Am pretty optimistic. Penalties at first game level better not persist, though.Meh, I'm usually overly optimistic but I really like this team. Saw a lot of good things and we can improve on a lot. That game could have easily been 34-3 with some better mental decisions
Absolutely freakin' agree!!!!! It was fun to see a "Garyesk" aggressive defensive. Defensive Tackle intercepting a deflected pass ..... are you kidding Me!!!I like the aggressiveness of the D
It's hard to believe I haven't seen this mentioned before. Mitchell is a 315+ Pound DL. These guys do not have the ability to catch a deflect like that and MATRICULATE the ball 6-7 yards further.Absolutely freakin' agree!!!!! It was fun to see a "Garyesk" aggressive defensive. I tried to find a clip of this. The way he jumped around and waved his arms - he looked like a (big) little kid! It's hard to believe I haven't seen this mentioned before. Mitchell is a 315+ Pound DL. I saw at least 4-5 drops from WR's where the ball hit them right in the hands. 2 from Savion and 2 from Richardon I recall.disagree with the above poster who said Hoover could not be great. A big key will be how our OL handles the blitz. SMU & many others are going to blitz our ass off, especially if our running game is inconsistent. That was our Achilles heel last year.We have some stuff to clean up and tighten up, and we got out with the “W”. Defense has taken major steps in the right direction, Hoov and WRs are solid. Time will tell where this season goes, but just enjoy that it has already started better than last year.
I could be wrong but I thought it gave a chance for Hoover to survey the Cardinal D, see their reactions, look for their tendencies and get back into the game with confidence. As I remember, Hoover bolted onto the field after those two Hejny plays. Also, why was Hejny out there???
Did SF chase the cardinal Tree with a chain-saw?That place is haunted to good squads on a Friday.
Yes, reminded me of Sumo-boy in The Replacements (2000).I tried to find a clip of this. The way he jumped around and waved his arms - he looked like a (big) little kid!
I predicted 6-6 but that was heavily predicated on Hoover being the wild card. I’m not ready to modify my prediction yet bc of the sample size but I saw a much better QB vs Stanford. That coupled with what appears to be defensive improvement has me feeling much more optimism. OL remains an open questionThis team is what every reasonable person expected they would be. Average. They might lean slightly above if they play great and get breaks. They might lean below average if they underperform and/or have key injuries. They likely are what they are.
