So who are we? Maybe we need to try and look at a few things objectively.
We are a small private school. As much as we hate to think about it, we’re a lot more like Rice, SMU, and Northwestern than we are Texas, OU, and Ohio State. Having our stands packed full of raging, fanatical, LOUD fans is going to be the exception, rather than the rule.
Despite these truths, we’ve had an AMAZING run of success. We’ve had our stands packed with a stadium as rocking as they come, and wins that are truly monumental.
What coach Patterson has done with this program is nothing less than hurculean. He’s brought a pride to this school not seen since the days of Sammy and Davey, yet his head is called to be served up on a platter. We ridicule Texas for how unforgiving they are about missteps but condemn our coach for struggles less then a full season removed from playing in the Big 12 championship.
When you don’t have a gourmet kitchen, it doesn’t take getting many of the ingredients wrong to make the meal inedible. Things aren’t clicking now, and it’s hard for those of us who have no recourse except to [ hundin] and moan about how bad the decisions being made are, but show some respect.
We are who we are...a small, private school with a small footprint in the college football landscape, but Gary Patterson has put us on the map. He’s given us sold out stadiums, College Gamedays, Bevo Steaks, and Badger Rose Bowl tears. The ingredients aren’t right this year, we can all see that, but take a deep breath, drink some whiskey, and get ready for the next high, because it’ll come; of that I am certain.
