Now we need @Jared7 back. I am hoping he is OK and doing well wherever he is.
Oh, I'm still around - just don't have much computer access anymore. I went to Friday's match against Baylor and Sunday's W over Kentucky but missed the final yesterday against Texas. Great to win a 2nd straight Indoor Nationals and return to the #1 ranking in all the land! Lots of Frog fans there as well. I spoke briefly to Tomas Jirousek after his clincher on Sunday - great move by Roditi to move him into the line-up over a guy he had beaten before. He was stoked, to say the least. Hopes are high for a NCAA title later this Spring! Go Frogs!

Are you using a jitterbug phone? Do we need to pool resources and send you a computer or smart phone?

Alex Gruskin interviewed Roditi on his podcast. They did talk about the visibility they get from Norrie. Probably the most interesting part was the discussion on getting Pinnington eligible. Gruskin mentioned the conversation with an anonymous coach who said JPJ would play over his dead body. Roditi said there were plenty of other programs in on JPJ, so there was broad understanding that there was a path for him to get eligible. Also, apparently JPJ lawyered up. He had a team of attorneys navigating the process with the NCAA for him. It sounded like it was on JPJ's dime, but Roditi said he was recommending the firm to other programs trying to get guys eligible.

Gray won today 6 & 3 to reach the QFs of the Rome Challenger. He had what looks like the best serving day of his career. Tennis Abstract doesn't have stats on a lot of his futures level matches, but of those they do have, his career high ace rate was 17%. Today he had 17 aces for a 24% rate. Not surprisingly, he didn't face a break point all day.

Next up is #1 seed and world #93 Jordan Thompson.

His game today was interesting. Bombing serves, virtually flawless while serving. Returning serve? Super sketch. Couldn't make really any progress and his lone break came via an unforced error that was extremely close, his opponent was not happy with the chair. The first set was straight up boring until the tiebreak, neither guy got even close to a break point opportunity.

He'll need the same serving and then some creativity returning against Thompson.

Gray got stomped pretty good by #1 seed Thompson. Couldn't really find the serve and Thompson easily handled his 1st serves anyways (relatively). Gray only won 58% of his 1st serves or something. Big gulf in Challenger level players and ATP level players like Thompson

Norrie wins his QF against #94 Dellien in three sets. He tried his best to completely collapse at the end (multiple double faults on match points), but kept it together enough. He'll play #42 Zapata Miralles. Just like last week, it's basically a clinic of clay specialists who are terrible on every surface but clay until he gets to Alcaraz in the final.

Alcaraz hammered Zapata Miralles in their semifinal last week, 6-2 6-2

It's a good problem to have but Norrie's been playing a ton of tennis lately. Not only did he make 2 finals in a row, but the last one was a 500 level event so there was no opening round bye. He's in another 500 tournament this week in Acapulco, where he'll have a chance to meet Alcaraz in the final for a 3rd straight week. I guess Alcaraz was hobbled at the end of yesterday's match. The latest news is he's in Acapulco getting an MRI, so we'll see if he plays it.

Nick Chappell is also playing in the main draw at Acapulco, as he made it through qualifying. This will be just his 2nd ATP match ever. He gets former #1 college player Nuno Borges (world #85). If they could both win a couple matches, Norrie and Chappell would meet in the quarters.
