And don•Quarterback Josh Hoover ranks fifth in the FBS in passing yards (2,614) while tying for fifth with 37 completions of at least 20 yards.
•Hoover is tied for eighth nationally with 19 touchdown passes. He had three against Texas Tech, including two in the fourth quarter as the Horned Frogs rallied from a 17-point second-half deficit for a 35-34 win.
Can't throw out stats and leave out that he's also responsible for more than two dozen turnovers in the past six games that have resulted in 56 points for our opponents.

Turnovers are game killers. Always have been, but even moreso in the current game where offenses have less possessions than in days last.

I think Hoover is a good QB. If our line was in better shape, we had a proper running game, and consistently disciplined play across the unit, Hoover could be real winner.

What? He's thrown a grand total of 8 interceptions in 8 games this year. Off the top of my head he's responsible for at least 3 lost fumbles, but maybe there's more.

His picks have actually been in the past 5 games, not 6. I was wrong. And counting fumbles, it's 11 total turnovers, not 12. But the 56 opponent points result is correct

It’s not just the raw numbers, it’s when and where they occur too. A pick on 3rd and 12 from midfield is much different than a fumble or pick on 1st down inside either your or your opponents 10-yard line.

I may be mistaken but a lot of his turnovers seem to occur in the latter type situations. He lacks game awareness, at least it appears that way to me.

Thus the opponents being able to capitalize on them and putting 56 points on the board because of them

For anyone curious:
Stanford:
  • Hoover fumbles at Stanford 4. Takes 6 points off the board for us, but doesn't "officially" cost us any points, as it occurred with 13 seconds in the first half.
  • Total points off Hoover turnovers: 0 officially, 3/7 if you count turning it over inside their 10 yard line.
No turnovers in the LIU or UCF games.
SMU (this is the bad one)5:
  • Hoover fumbles that is immediately returned for a Touchdown.
  • Hoover throws an interception that is returned 60 yards for a Touchdown
  • Hoover sack/fumbles at our 10 yard line, returned to our 1 yard line. SMU scores on the next play.
  • Hoover throws an interception at the SMU 3 yard line, returned out to the SMU 40. SMU scores a field goal
  • (Cam Cook later fumbled at the end of the third)
  • Total points off Hoover turnovers: 24 points.
Kansas:
  • Hoover throws an interception at the TCU 6 yard line. Kansas ends up with a Field Goal.
  • Hoover throws an interception at the Kansas 14 yard line. Kansas ends up punting.
  • (Cam Cook fumble earlier in the game, resulting in a KU touchdown)
  • Total points off Hoover turnovers: 7 points.
Houston:
  • Hoover throws an interception at the Houston 24, returned out to the Houston 38. Houston scores a touchdown.
  • Hoover throws an interception at the TCU 20. Houston ends up punting (defense got a big sack to push them out if FG range)
  • Hoover sack/fumbled right at midfield. Houston doesn't score because they take a knee to end the game.
  • Total points off Hoover turnovers: 7 points.
Utah:
  • Hoover fumbles on a read option at the Utah 9. It probably takes points off the board, but Utah ends up punting (which was blocked).
  • Total points off Hoover turnovers: 0 officially, 3/7 if you count turning it over inside their 10 yard line.
Texas Tech:
  • Hoover sack/fumble at the TCU 4 yard line. Tech scores touchdown on the fake field goal.
  • Hoover intercepted at the TCU 30. Tech misses field goal.
  • Hoover intercepted at midfield. Tech scores touchdown.
  • Total points off Hoover turnovers: 14 points.
So we're at 52 points following Hoover TO's on the season (not the last 6 games), with anywhere between 6 and 14 more from turnovers where we were inside the opponent's 10.

Great analysis... IMO it's worse than that though as it's kinda like a basketball point swing (Ex: miss an easy layup on offensive end and don't get back on defense and give up a 3 for a 5 point swing).

In football's case, we either don't get a 3 or 7, kill momentum, and defense has to work it's arse off to not give up points. Just take care of the ball! He can make some good plays, but his "unaware" or "lack of ball protection" plays are just killing us at times.

You could logically predict that if he takes care of the ball, we could win our remaining games and go 9-3.... But that's like asking for a Festivus miracle rn. So every game is up for grabs.
