RIP Julie Johannessen - TCU Rifle

East Coast

Tier 1
"Just days after returning to Texas after the World Cup, she was found dead in her room at the university. It feels incredibly sad, hurts and is completely unreal. We want to stand with the family in their grief and help ensure that Julie's memory is well taken care of."

From the article referenced above...so sad...prayers for her and her family

As our daughter continues to click all the boxes heading towards TCU this fall for her freshman year, this story really hits hard. I cannot imagine the pain her family and friends are going thru. As somebody else posted, talk to your kids. Just never know what folks are dealing private.

Was kinda surprised they didn’t have the flags at half staff at the baseball game yesterday for her

Yes. Sadly there have been too many young collegiate female athletes that have taken their lives that have made the news in recent times. From the outside it would appear these girls had perfect lives. You just never know the pain that is carried by others especially if they hide it well. For her family and close friends it must by agonizing.

Unfortunately, there is a real stigma associated with deep depression (at least when it progresses to the point of having suicidal thoughts) that makes people very hesitant to seek help. And I can understand why they go into a shell. The solutions, or the cure I guess, can be pretty complicated. And I think sometimes family or friends that try and help can just make it worse.

The time you won your town the race
We chaired you through the market-place;
Man and boy stood cheering by,
And home we brought you shoulder-high.

Today, the road all runners come,
Shoulder-high we bring you home,
And set you at your threshold down,
Townsman of a stiller town.
