Travelers Championship
Cam Young with an unbelievable -11 today for a total -13 so far. Scottie just tied him up at the 5th hole. A lot more golf to go.

Has anyone played this course? (Cromwell, CT)
Looks pretty easy - especially after last week.
I live about 20 minutes or so from there and have played it probably 6 or 7 times through the years and it's not very difficult especially compared to some of the other Tour courses that I've been lucky enough to play. It's really short. I believe even for these guys it's under 7,000 yards.

It's kind of funny that all I heard leading up to this week on how embarrassed they were by -23 winning last year and how they "toughened up" the course. Doesn't look like it worked all that well.

Played it a few times - it was always meant to be a bit easier to give the guys a break after what has traditionally been the hardest test in golf

But back then people didn’t make a big deal about a few tourneys being birdie fests - fans would talk about how they like watching guys make birdies more than struggle to make bogies all day long

Now with the “split” in golf the public and press just look for things to try and one up each other

Making this a signature event is a real slap in the face to the Colonial and the Nelson. The timing is terrible, and the course is well below mediocre by tour standards. It has never been thought of as a prestigious event until the tour just magically waved their wand and declared it so.

The players asked for grouping of events more than last year

No signature events in Texas is a total joke but Colonial won’t see signature until Jack is dead or the PGA moved back to the end of the year or they spread all the majors out more

It’s all about the sponsorship IMO.

edit: it’s also the 2nd most attended tournament on tour behind the Phoenix tournament. I didn’t realize that, and that can’t hurt either.

Not really - Colonial has one of the most influential sponsors for the PGAT in Schwab - outside of Fedex, Schwab has the largest commitment between Colonial, sponsoring the all season race in the senior tour, etc

This year they were trying to group more events in a row between majors and signature but it seems to not have been as well received as wanted despite the players asking for it

And they are moving Jack back to the week after Colonial

It’s too bad because honestly the 3 weeks in a row grouping and then having Canadian not one right after Colonial was the only shot we ever get to be signature with the Wells Fargo a permanent signature event right before the PGA championship
