OSU Athletics: Cowboys Return to Stillwater to Host TCU

Complete Notes

The Basics
The Oklahoma State football team (5-3 overall; 2-3 Big 12) returns to Stillwater to host TCU (4-3 overall; 2-2 Big 12) on Saturday at 2:30 p.m. at Boone Pickens Stadium.

Get Your Tickets
Season tickets and single-game tickets are available at okstate.com/tickets or by calling the OSU ticket office at 877-ALL-4-OSU. Fans interested in tickets can also text the OSU ticket office at 877-255-4678. With season ticket prices starting at $300 and three home games remaining, it is still a better deal to purchase a season ticket than to buy each game individually. Purchasing a season ticket is also the only way to attend the Bedlam game. Single-game tickets for this Saturday start at $75.

On the Air
The game will be televised by ESPN with Mark Jones, Dusty Dvoracek and Olivia Dekker on the call. The contest will also be carried live on the Cowboy Radio Network, with Dave Hunziker handling play-by-play, John Holcomb providing analysis and Robert Allen reporting from the sideline. Fans outside of the Cowboy Radio Network can listen to the OSU broadcast for free through TuneIn Radio or the TuneIn Radio app.

In the Rankings
Oklahoma State is not ranked this week, but is receiving votes in both the AP and the coaches polls. Entering 2019, OSU had reached the top 15 of the AP poll at some point in 10 of the past 11 seasons. OSU had also seen a top 10 ranking in the AP poll at some point in eight of the past 11 seasons. TCU is not ranked in either poll.

The Series
Saturday's game marks the 30th meeting between Oklahoma State and TCU, with the series dating back to 1915. The 2019 season also marks the eighth consecutive year the teams have met. OSU owns a 15-12-2 all-time series advantage, including a 9-4 advantage in games played in Stillwater. OSU has won five of the past eight in the series, including four of the past five played in Stillwater. A win Saturday would end a two-game win streak for the Horned Frogs. Coach Mike Gundy is 4-3 in his career against TCU, while TCU coach Gary Patterson is 3-4 in his career against OSU.

Oklahoma State from a Distance
Oklahoma State is 5-3 overall and 2-3 in Big 12 play, and just finished a stretch of facing four ranked opponents in its past five games. The story of the season so far has been the emergence of Heisman Trophy candidate Chuba Hubbard, who leads the nation in nearly every statistical rushing category, including rushing yards, rushing yards per game, all-purpose yards, yards after contact (via Pro Football Focus), yards per carry (min. 155) and more. His average of 172.6 rushing yards per game is 33.8 more than second-place J.K. Dobbins of Ohio State. For perspective, the spread between first place and second place is equal to the difference between second-place Dobbins and 19th-place Joshua Kelley of UCLA. Hubbard's rushing yards and rushing yards per carry through eight games are better than three of the past four running backs to win the Heisman. OSU wide receiver Tylan Wallace is also making a case to repeat as a first team All-American and Biletnikoff Award finalist, if not more. Wallace leads all Power Five conference players with 903 receiving yards this season, and he ranks No. 1 in the FBS in 60-plus, 70-plus and 90-plus yard catches. Defensively, the Cowboys are coming off one of their most impressive performances of the season, as they forced a three-and-out and three interceptions, including the game-deciding pick-six, on Iowa State's final four possessions last week to seal a seven-point win in Ames. OSU has held its past four opponents to a combined 11-of-51 (21.6%) on third down. That ranks No. 2 in the FBS over the past five weeks. Linebackers Amen Ogbongbemiga and Malcolm Rodriguez have been the individual standouts, as both rank among the top seven tacklers in the Big 12. On special teams, Matt Ammendola ranks third among all active players in the FBS with 321 career points scored. At 12-for-12 on the year, he's one of four kickers in the country who have attempted 12 or more field goals and converted at a 100 percent rate this season.
