FWIW… Word this afternoon from University Dr. is that the Napier intervie/review process has gone so well that he has moved up to #1 on the board…..

I could see that. Outside of a Petersen or Moore longshot, Napier seems like the best candidate.

Surprised at this a little, heard last week he was not super interested, I wonder what changed from his camp. Also kind of wonder how he got ahead of Dykes.

I have some concerns with him: the UL offense is kind of vanilla lack of ties to Texas, he played at Furman and grew up in South Carolina. Also concerned he would leave if successful for $ec

To be clear, is he going to further engage and run to TCU? That isn’t clear. All I’ve heard is that TCU really likes him and he has engaged enough so far that we feel this could be “real.” But coaches change their minds, and sometimes things feel good one day vs the next, etc… not to forget: There are going to be a LOT of open jobs for him to consider this season, if he wants. But I do think TCU offers some interesting benefits vs others.

Not sure I’ve ever heard of a coach being given an ultimatum quite like that.

I sure hope they do that. I can't think of a quicker way to ensure no quality coach will ever consider that job in the future.

TCU has its eyes on a fellow Big 12 coach to potentially replace Gary Patterson. Iowa State’s Matt Campbell is someone TCU is “definitely interested” in, sources told the Star-Telegram on Sunday night. It’s unknown how much interest Campbell has in the position.

Have a hard time believing Campbell would leave ISU for TCU. Sounds like some kind of play to get more from ISU for staff, program. Something.

Patterson was super young when he got the HC job at TCU. Dykes is in his mid 50s. That isn't old, but I think TCU would like to stay younger. I would be happy with Dykes, but I also wonder if he isn't happy with holding at SMU long-term.

Dykes is 51, three years younger than Deion Sanders. Since when is 51 “mid fifties”?
