NBC Sports: Arkansas adds TCU signee who signed with New York Yankees

By John Taylor

Austin Aune‘s circuitous sports journey, one which Chris Weinke and Brandon Weeden would approve, has taken its next stop in Fayetteville.

According to 247Sports.com, Aune has joined the Arkansas football program and is enrolled in classes at the university. At least initially, the quarterback will be a part of the Razorbacks as a walk-on; it’s expected he’ll take the field with the rest of his new teammates when spring practice kicks off month after next.

According to the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette, Aune had also considered TCU and North Texas before the SEC’s mystique proved to be too much.

Arky had two projected starting O linemen quit within the last couple of weeks. One of the kids was projected as their starting center. They were already one of the worst O lines in the nation last year. Hopefully Aune has an eye towards the long game and maybe Morris will get things turned around in a couple of years. Their recruiting class is currently ranked 64th and they only have 2 O linemen signed as the player retirements came late in the game if you believe anything from their message boards.

Good kid and family. His dad is a great guy! Wish him the best....... it will be tough after the break from football but who knows...., that being said it’s Arkansas so they need lots of help.

Article fails to mention he’s a long way from being as talented and athletic as two of our recent QB signees as a factor in choosing Arkansas.

Since minor league baseball contracts generally have a provision that pays for college when the player leaves baseball it will save Arkie a scholarship if he makes the team.

Dang. A few weeks ago it was rumored he was likely going to end up at TCU. Would have been a great get.

Sounds like he really wanted to come to TCU, but that it was pretty likely he was going to be a back up his entire career, so he eventually opted for the opportunity that gave him a much higher likelihood of having a significant role.

Agreed. Be a backup here or start with an exciting new coach with a chance to start and develops good QBs. I don’t blame him a bit.

"The allure of the SEC and Chad Morris".......seriously??
I laughed at that BS. They are really full of themselves in SEC country. I would assume the only reason he was really considering TCU is because he signed with us out of high school. I'm sure we would've gladly taken him if he wanted to come walk on but there's very little chance he would've been competing for the starting QB spot at any time.

So that leaves University of North Texas. Congrats Arky on using the "allure of the SEC" to beat out University of North Texas for a guy who hasn't played football in 5 years.

The SEC stuff does get old. Ever notice that the SEC only includes schools from the former Confederacy??? Can’t spell secede without SEC. Got a similar cult feel to it as well. And I live in SEC country...

He is not getting back into college football after a failed try at baseball to be a backup. He is looking to play and for a pro contract in some sport.

Yeah if Morris can get us into the 30's in recruiting he would have done a hell of a job IMO.

Only one of the OL was projected to start but Bielema really left us in a terrible position on the OL. You can have all the skill players you want but with no OL everything falls apart. We're probably left with converting a DL or starting a freshman at center now.

Sounds like the QB competition will be wide open though.

Don’t tell that to Texas. I enjoy them recruiting a 7 on 7 team

And developing huge, dominating O-lines was supposedly his calling card. Ironic that it's the one position in which he left the biggest mess.
