MLB Draft June 2017

Not many go back to school. That being said $900,000 and $250,000 worth of free school is a [ Finebaum ]load of money.

This is a funny topic to me. I have posed this to more than a few MLB scouts over the past several years. I have asked "what percentage of draftees get their degree under the program" and "what percentage of your draftees get their degree under the program". The percentages have ranged from "65%" to "less than 10%" over the last three years or so. As always, there's an accurate number out there on both accounts although I suspect that it's not easy to track or report.

If he comes back for his last year of eligibility he loses all leverage. He's unlikely to go up any draft boards from this year to next, so if he comes back it's mostly just a huge financial concession.
True, but not as true as before. Slotting diminished the junior leverage factor.

I think many were expecting to see a jump in his defense from last year to this year...which didn't happen. So a slow start this year coupled with having to project a position change....
