Metro: Replacing Mason falls to Jeremy Kerley

Replacing a 15-year veteran with 937 receptions and over 12,000 receiving yards now falls to a rookie fifth-round pick with three career catches to his name.

With the trade of Derrick Mason to Houston on Tuesday night, Kerley has now emerged as the Jets’ third wide receiver. Mason, who was signed by the Jets in August after being cut in Baltimore, was critical of the offense following a Week 4 loss to the Ravens and was on the sidelines in New England this past Sunday until the third quarter. General manager Mike Tannenbaum and head coach Rex Ryan said that Mason’s remarks had nothing to do with him being shipped off to the Texans.

“I thought I answered it back then, whether people want to believe it or not,” Ryan said. “He was not benched because of comments he made in the media. That’s not true.” ...
