Steel hesitates to generalize about the people per se as steel knows many really good folks there (in northern burbs) but the way the city, and state, are run is a national disgrace. Not focused on as much as Cali but every bit as bad. No wonder the population of IL is decreasing and it’s losing federal representatives.
Illinois/Chicago is the same as California, New York, and a few other places. For years now they have been nice places to visit, but one would not want to live there. That's because when visiting, one can pick and choose and avoid bad places, socialist government, and people, which isn't possible when living there. Visitors have the advantage that, even if they run into something bad, they will be leaving soon.

@Punter1 - Rinaldi is better than Gino's East? Been more than three decades. But love the ol' place on Superior. Also wound up at Giordano's on Rush St. once. Also good.

Giordanos is my favorite pizza place in the world. We have 2 here in Las Vegas. I took my dad there and he was in heaven.

Gino's East is decent. I've been to the one in Arlington over by Wet N Wild/The Ballpark. Not as good as Giordano's. But both are way better than Lou Malnati's.

It's funny how many California transplants live here now. Sadly I see way too many cars in driveways, apartment complexes and roads here with CA plates and Biden or other left wing bumper stickers. They always talk about how great California is, how much they loved California, and how Nevada needs to be more like California. So why the hell did they leave then?

have family up there and go every 12-18 months, but never had any desire to stay longer than a few days

never really got deep dish pizza even though i have been taken to most of the places listed earlier. i prefer lasagna and thin crust pizza, agree with doc on the italian beef

seems like most of the food is designed to "fortify" the residents for the winters

The unknown trick to Chicago pizza is the thin crust. Everyone thinks you need to get the deep dish. And they are mostly wrong. Thin crust in Chicago is the way to go. Unless you are at Giordano’s because they can’t make a thin crust pizza for anything.

100 darning percent. I am first and foremost a thin crust guy...like Campisi's in Dallas...which I love. When people say Chicago style is deep dish...I always say their thin crust is the way to go. But this Scicilian-style, deep dish they had was even better than their thin crust..

This place, Renaldi's, just south of Wrigley had both which were incredible...thin crust on the left in the 2nd pic.
