How are we feeling about the Ponies?

Here are the highlights of their trip to Norman:

Ponies made OU work for it. Seems like Stone was throwing off his back foot a lot under pressure, but how good do we feel about TCU's chances to get a consistent pass rush? When he has time, he throws a nice ball. There some good catches in here; looks like their receivers are decent. They seemed to take good advantage of missed tackles, too--both receivers and running backs. They put Gabriel under plenty of pressure on defense. Tackled fairly well until the end, too.

I think SMU will be really tough, probably more so than the next two or three teams we play after them. My big fear is that they (as always) will be pumped up to play us and our guys won't feel the same urgency. I don't want to be trailing 21-3 and minus two turnovers before the Frogs wake up and realize we're in a game.

[Other opponent data: OU has blasted Arkansas State and Tulsa like the Death Star getting after Alderan, whereas SMU has beaten La. Tech by a couple of touchdowns and run it up on Prairie View. I have no idea what any of that portends.]

I can absolutely see where you're coming from with that last sentence. That being said, I think that with Sonny on our sideline, he KNOWS the implications of this game, and he is passing that urgency on to the boys. While we as fans might be ambivalent to the ponies, I can promise you Dykes and Kaz and several others are definitely not.

I watched the entire game against Oklahoma in a hotel room.

Oklahoma is that type of offense that can run it up against the Arkansas States and Tulsas of the world but any defense with a pulse should be able to keep them in check. SMU sold out to stop the run and dared Dillon Gabriel to beat them with his arm and they(OU) were very average. Still not sold on Gabriel. Our offense is better than OU's by quite a bit especially on the ground. The SMU defense can't sell out on the run against us because our passing game is also better, with more weapons than OU

SMU offense did absolutely nothing to impress me. They don't have a big play threat to stretch the defense. Every shot they took failed. SMU was able to nickel and dime some but stalled out as the field got shorter. Their only TD drive of the night was completely penalty aided.

Stone as of right now is not as good as Mordecai. Still not sure if OU has fixed their defensive issues from a year ago but SMU looked like we did when we played there in 2008 with the Schultz offense.

Nothing I saw from SMU against OU has me thinking they should be favored over us.

I like all of this and want it to be true. Make it so TCU. Considering it’s at home -6.5 makes me think Vegas figures it will be close. I’d love to beat that spread but winning by 1 is good with me.
