UH's first year in Big 12 could be a long one if loss to TCU is any indication

Is it just a matter of time?

Bill Yeoman’s squad stepped into the Southwest Conference with no fear, winning the title in its first season.

Houston’s first home game in the SWC was at Rice Stadium, where a packed house of 70,001 saw UH dominate the ninth-ranked Aggies.

It was time for UH to be in a major conference.

Dana Holgorsen’s Cougars’ big-time home debut in the Big 12 Conference drew about half the crowd against unranked TCU on Saturday.

Most of the 36,049 on hand left unhappy after the Cougars were embarrassed 36-13.

jerome is a longhorn so he can't help himself and that stadium being just a big over half full isn't on the opponent, so scheiss jerome

there wasn't 36k+ there and there is no reason for a school with an oncampus stadium , over 35k in enrollment, over 200K alumni, and in one of the 5 largest cities in america can't draw a decent sized crowd

They have been wandering and not winning for 20 years. Look to TCU as to what can happen to the locals when that happens. Low attendance as people stopped paying attention. I thought the crowd looked decent for a team coming off a loss to Rice. A few years of decent income and maybe a fancy coaching hire could help them down the road. Otherwise, we just take it as Houston coverage and recruiting.

the one thing about houston and their attendance issues is that they have had multiple years where they have won, won big when the joined the swc, were very competitive for a long time, and had some winning seasons after and the city of houston has just yawned and paid attention to the texans

houston for months has been pushing three packs of home tickets for $66 for 3 games and for their big 12 debut there were alot of empty seats

Weather stunk right up to an hour before kickoff.

Game was on TV.

Drive to the game, park, get soaked, deal with rain gear, or stay home, order a pizza, stay dry, etc.

I can’t argue with those that just did not wish to risk getting drowned.

Whats more surprising is I usually see a lot of empty seats at their basketball games. Gotta be better than watching the Rockets.

the cougs haven't drawn period in their history, back in the dome years when they won they played in front of sparse crowds, during the pardee years they played in front of sparse crowds, and now they have more students than ever that live on campus, they are finally getting the shot n the big 12 that they "deserved" according to some in the houston media , and they drew squat

Give them a break. Its tough changing your shift at 7-11.

Not disagreeing, just saying that some UH stayed home because the weather stunk on Saturday afternoon.

The averaged around 22-24K last few years. 36K this year over two games. Obviously that is a seats sold number, but they counted them the same last year, so definitely increased interest. Too bad the product will be so much worse this year. They will probably lose some of that ticket sales momentum.

location of stadium doesn't help. Move it to the Woodlands.

Yeah...no one pays attention to the Texans...

This is from 2021 (spoiler - Houston bottom six in NFL ratings), but I doubt it's changed much as the local NFL team in Houston gets worse: https://footballscoop.com/news/nfl-local-tv-ratings-2021

not sure who you are trying to convince as even with the [ Finebaum ]ty last two seasons their tickets solds are still way over 65,000, they draw the most eyeballs of any game broadcast in the market, they are number on topic on houston sports radio once august rolls around, and they draw the most coverage in the chronicle

was that same way with the oiles and even in the time between the nfl drew the most attention in houston

this isn't about how the texans compare with other nfl teams in terms of ratings etc....but that the nfl overshadows everything in houston and then is followed by the sec
