Because my grandfather is going to the Rose Bowl with me. This is his first time to go so I don't know why they've been calling it that for so long.

Perhaps because the Rose Bowl is the first ever bowl game. On January 1, 1902 Michigan beat Stanford 49-0 to start things off. The Cotton Bowl might look bigger to you because it's closer. It was first played in 1937.
