GP in the coaches room

not sure why they didn't have the same setup for the video as last year, but that was a big hassle and herm would be a couple of plays behind belaboring a point.

one thing i did ponder was as locked in as gary was on the technique and positioning of the ou cornerbacks i am curious if he ever looks at the routes tcu's receviers run or the difficulty getting free of a jam at the line and ask why the frogs receivers aren't better.

I only watched the second half. I had never watched a game in that format. Edwards was pretty unbearable. The back and forth on the control was miserable to watch. If they had better used the telestrator to show why they were just going back and forth constantly, it may have been worthwhile. As it was, it just looked annoying as heck. The game was also hard to follow because the picture was too far out to appreciate what was happening on the field. A couple of times, there was a score and I could not even make it out on the film and the coaches didn't really say what had happened, just a collective groan from them.
Gary did not have that much to say that I heard. As someone mentioned, he seemed checked out. He was playing on his phone more than my wife when we are out on a date. The other coaches egged on Herman with the whole "Casino" thing that he would not shut up about.
I would not likely choose to watch the game like that again unless they improve it.
That casino reference was a neat little insight early in the game. After the 3rd reference to it in 5 minutes it was old. When it continued to be a dominant theme at half time I switched to Fowler and Herbie. Herm was a total waste of the opportunity and the fact that a producer who knows how to operate the DVR wasn't associated with the broadcast really spoiled what was a fantastic concept last year.

I'd also point out, last year GP dominated the conversation maybe even more than Herm this year. The difference is Herm was blathering about useless crap trying to sound smart while proving he's an imbecile. GP actually blew the minds of everyone on set and watching on TV proving he's a savant in a non-pretentious way. After a couple series in the game the other coaches wanted to hear GP's thoughts as much as GP wanted to share them. It was a riveting dialogue and everyone involved learned something by being there.

Do you mind if I use some of your verbiage in an email to ESPN telling them how awful Herm was? Hopefully, they get an earful from all over.

By all means. If it helps make that coaches' film room concept better next time I'm happy to have contributed. I'll be honest, though... I have very little hope that ESPN cares what you or I think.

I hear you. I have received 3 automated responses from them. The third one asked how useful was the second one (which said nothing.) But we'll see if I get a response from an actual person.

Herm is gonna Herm but he was actually dropping some good detail thru that film session.

The only part that ever got under my skin was he didn’t seem to understand the coaches clicker and how it worked. He kept rewinding in slow rewind when he’s got a speed rewind button too. So they kept missing live plays watching the last 2 plays in reverse....

It seems to me the biggest difference between this year and last year was that the coaches last year actually seemed to like each other and to engage in conversation. Yes, there was lots of football talk, but you could tell that the coaches were enjoying themselves. It seemed in this one everybody would just sit back and yell out "casino" because Hermie was just going to shout over whatever you had to say anyway.

@QuilterFrawg you probably should send a preemptive e-mail about how bad an idea this is before it even happens. If you don't mind, tell them for me that I'd like to have Leach, Holgo, Gundy, and CGP on that broadcast. They can thank me later for the ratings.

Take out Holgerson, insert Art Briles, then get your popcorn ready.

I think it was good for folks to hear some standard lingo from nfl level, but I agree after about the 5th time hearing "casino" it felt like watching a bad remake of the scene from Chisum.

If I ever hear from a humanoid, I'll pass it along. Still only received the 3 auto-responses. I'm sure they are pouring over my treatise and formulating a cogent, gracious reply.
I'll keep you posted.
