GoFrogs: TCU Sweeps Season Opening Doubleheader
FORT WORTH -- TCU Women's Tennis racked up a pair of victories Saturday at the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center in Fort Worth, Texas. TCU won all seven of the completed singles matches to defeat ACU, 4-1 and Tarleton, 4-0.
"Glad to get started outdoors today," Head Coach Lee Taylor Walker said. "I thought we did a lot of good things. It was a quick transition outside, it took a little bit to adjust to the slower pace of outdoor matches. But I'm proud of our compete level. It was great to see Tate [Schroeder] back out there playing singles. Mercedes and Addy had some dominant performances today as well. I'm glad we got off to a winning start to the season. We learned a lot and I'm excited to see what we can do headed into next week."
Marie Norris and Addy Guevara led the way for TCU, finishing with a perfect 4-0 record across all matches. The wins only continue the hot streak both players have been riding thus far in 2021. Norris improves to 5-0 in singles play and 10-1 overall this year. Her singles play has been nothing short of dominant as she has now won 60 of 74 singles games this calendar year (81.1 percent). Guevara has been on a similar tear, delivering a 10-1 overall record with a perfect 5-0 mark in singles.
Stevie Kennedy recorded a pair of singles victories today, playing in the No. 4 and No. 2 positions. The wins improve her singles record to 3-0 this year after she recorded a win in her only singles appearance at the TCU Invite, last weekend.
The Horned Frogs showed their talent in singles play throughout the day. Of the 12 singles matches played, TCU did not drop a set, winning all 19 completed sets.
TCU will aim to build off this momentum going into next week, when they host North Texas on Tuesday, Jan. 26, at 2 p.m. at the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center.
