FORT WORTH - A late goal in the first half by Texas Tech was all the Red Raiders needed to hand TCU a 1-0 loss on Sunday afternoon. The Horned Frogs received stellar net minding from senior goalkeeper Vittoria Arnold as she made eight saves in the loss.

"We didn't bring a level of intensity that we needed in the first half and we got punished for that," said head coach Eric Bell. "In the second half, we changed some things and got after them a little more. We were able to create some more chances."

Texas Tech outshot the Horned Frogs 20-7, but the Red Raiders used a dominating first half to build the wide margin. TCU narrowed the gap with six shots in the second half as it tried to mount a comeback. Arnold was huge in the first half as she stopped six of the seven shots on goal.

"Vittoria has done a very good job for us the last three years as we try to build the program where we want it to be," said Bell. "She's left a very positive mark on our program. Every goalkeeper now will be compared to her as we move forward."

The Red Raiders were firing shots from all over in their offensive half, but the TCU defense did a strong job keeping the shots to distance and forcing them wide. Arnold made a trio of saves in the first 20 minutes of the match.

TCU came close to getting on the board in the 27th minute on a push upfield from Michelle Prokof. She split her defenders and sent a shot from distance that just missed going into the upper portion of the goal.

Arnold came up with two more saves before finally yielding the only goal of the match. Janine Beckie held off her defender and worked the ball to a wide-open Paige Strahan. She fired a long-range shot across the six-yard box where it nicked off the far post and ricocheted into the back of the goal for a 1-0 lead.

A much more spirited second half saw the Frogs push forward more as they tried to get the equalizer. The Frogs had a trio of good looks at the tying goal, but one shot went wide while the other two were smothered by the Tech keeper.

In the 64th minute, Kela Gray took a good feed to the right of the goal. Red Raider goalkeeper Lauren Watson came out to challenge Gray, but misplayed the challenge leaving a wide-open net. Gray pushed the shot just wide left of the goal.

Just over 10 minutes later, TCU saw another solid opportunity snuffed out by the Texas Tech keeper. Ryan Williams made a strong run down the far side and worked past her defender to give herself space and time to send a beautiful cross right to the head of Heckendorn. Her header was knocked down and covered by Watson to keep the Red Raider lead in tact.

The Frogs would keep pushing the attack, but couldn't get a shot to go in as they were shutout for the sixth time this season.

"The down week will allow us to get our legs back and rest up a little bit," said Bell. "Hopefully we can take care of some of the little injuries people are carrying. We'll turn our focus to Iowa State and hopefully go up there and take care of business.

TCU falls to 8-6-3 overall and 1-3-3 in Big 12 play. The Frogs will be off until Oct. 31 when they head north to take on Iowa State in the final regular season match. Game time in Ames will be 7 p.m.
