GoFrogs: Soccer Scores Victory at No. 13 Texas Tech

LUBBOCK, Texas – Gracie Brian's goal in the 50th minute stood up as the game-winner as TCU snapped No. 13 Texas Tech's 13-match unbeaten streak with a 2-1 victory Friday night at John Walker Stadium. Messiah Bright also tallied for the Horned Frogs in the win.

The Rundown
TCU hit the ground running, generating four corner kicks in the game's first four minutes. While those didn't prove fruitful, the tone for the match was sent.

The early pressure manifested in a goal in the sixth minute of play. Messiah Bright intercepted a Texas Tech pass and launched a strike from 28 yards out past a diving keeper for a 1-0 lead.

Texas Tech evened the game just over four minutes later, taking advantage of a corner kick. Demi Koulizakis was in the right spot to tap home the crossing feed for a tie game. Emily Alvarado came up with one of her best saves of the season in the 24th minute as she dove to punch away a shot ticketed for the near post.

In the second half, the Horned Frogs came out with pressure and pace. Again, that resulted in an early tally. Yazmeen Ryan lost her defender and found Gracie Brian for the tap-in goal and a 2-1 lead in the 49th minute.

The defense stood tall, holding a desperate Texas Tech squad to just four shots in the half. Alvarado came up huge in the half, stopping all three shots that came her way.

Stat of the Game
9
Gracie Brian scored her ninth goal of the season, the most by a Horned Frog since Allison Ganter scored nine during the 2016 campaign. She also notched her fifth game-winning goal of the year.

Quotes of the Game
Head Coach Eric Bell

On the game:
"We've had a little over a week off since we've play. We were chomping at the bit to get back out there, to see where we are at. It was a quality win against quality opponent on the road. I'm proud of our players. We scored two good goals. The play of Yazmeen, Messiah, Grace and Gracie was obviously good. Emily in goal was outstanding. The overall team defending was excellent. I'm happy and proud of our group."

Setting the tone:
"We score and now the other team has to play catch-up. Hat's off to them for scoring to equalize relatively quickly. It was nice to answer early in second. Again, they have to exert energy to get a goal and maybe that tires them out. The way our kids worked and competed was next level, especially in a hostile environment. That's hard to do in this league."

On the lay-off:
"We had a hard week of practice. I know I woke up ready to play this morning and we still had to wait some more. We were all chomping at the bit to play somebody besides ourselves."
