GoFrogs: Peavy Leads Frogs to Season-Opening Win
FORT WORTH - Micah Peavy's career-high 21 points led the TCU men's basketball team to its second-highest point total ever in a season-opener with a 108-75 win over Southern, Monday night in Schollmaier Arena.

TCU (1-0) trailed by six on two occasions with some early turnovers. The Frogs scored 10 unanswered points to lead 20-16 with 10:40 remaining in the first and never trailed again. TCU concluded the half with a 19-point lead, 54-35.

TCU scored the first nine points of the second half. The lead continued to grow, as large as 39 points, 96-57 at 6:17 after a 3-pointer by Avery Anderson III. The Oklahoma State transfer scored 15 points in his TCU debut, on 5-of-8 shooting.

Joining Anderson and Peavy in double figures were JaKobe Coles with 17, Jameer Nelson Jr. with 14 and Trevian Tennyson with 13. Nelson had six of TCU's 28 assists.

The Frogs shot 61.4 percent from the field, including 43.5 percent (10-of-23) from 3-point range, and outrebounded the Jaguars 41-28. Veterans Chuck O'Bannon Jr. and Emanuel Miller each contributed nine points and Miller added nine rebounds.

All available Frogs entered the contest in the final minutes.

Southern (0-1) was led by Brandon Davis's 20 points on 6-of-11 shooting from 3-point range.

The Frogs continue their five-game homestead on Thursday at 7 p.m. against Omaha at Schollmaier Arena. The game will be available on Big 12 Now on ESPN+.

  • It was program win No. 1,299 for TCU.
  • TCU improved to 1-0 all-time against Southern and 41-1 against members of the Southwestern Athletic Conference.
  • Jamie Dixon improved to 21-0 in season openers in his career.
  • The team's 108 points marked the second-highest-scoring home opener in program history. It was the most in an opener since 1984 when TCU defeated St. Edwards (Texas), 112-71.
  • It was the most points a TCU team has scored since a 108-99 triple overtime win over Texas State on Nov. 4, 2009. It was the most scored in regulation since Jan. 5, 2002, in a 117-108 loss at USF.
  • TCU improved to 72-11 against non-conference opponents under Dixon.
  • TCU improved to 76-37 in season openers and has won nine straight and 16 of its last 17.
  • TCU improved to 62-13 in home openers and has won ten straight at home.
  • TCU outrebounded the Jaguars 41-28. The Frogs improved to 116-36 under Dixon when outrebounding their opponent.

Individual Notes
  • Micah Peavy scored a career-high 21 points. His previous high was 16 points, which last occurred last season against Iowa.
  • Peavy made 10-of-13 shot attempts. It was the most made field goals of his career.
  • Avery Anderson III (2-4), JaKobe Coles (2-4), Jameer Nelson (2-2) and Trevian Tennyson (3-5) all made multiple 3-pointers.
  • It was announced after the game that freshmen Jace Posey and Isaiah Manning plan to redshirt the season.
