GoFrogs: Humphreys Helps Frogs Walk-Off

FORT WORTH – A bases-loaded, two-out single from Zach Humphreys helped TCU secure a 5-4 win over Minnesota in the resumption of Saturday’s suspended game. Trey Morris picked up the win in relief.

The Rundown
TCU scored a trio of runs in the first. Connor Wanhanen led off the first with a base hit and moved to second on a walk to Zach Humphreys. Josh Watson singled to right to put the Frogs in front. With Watson caught in a run down, Humphreys was able to score from first and Watson ultimately ended up safe at second. A two-out single from A.J. Balta made it a 3-0 game.

In the second, the Frogs tacked on another run to make it a 4-0 ballgame. Coby Boulware tripled and scored on a throwing error.

The rain came in the top of the third forcing the game to be suspended until Sunday.

Minnesota began the road to the comeback in the fifth inning with a pair of runs. The first two batters reached in the inning. After a sacrifice bunt, Terrin Vavra singled to make it a 4-2 game.

The Golden Gophers picked up an unearned run in the sixth inning. A two-out single from Luke Pettersen pulled Minnesota within one. The comeback was completed in the eighth on a two-out single from Vavra.

Minnesota stranded five runners in extra innings. The Golden Gophers had two base runners in the 11th and 13th innings, but couldn’t get the runners in. Morris (1-0) got the two biggest outs of the game when he came in with runners on the corners and only one out in the 13th.

In the bottom of the inning, TCU loaded the bases on a trio of walks. Humphreys came through with a two-out single to right center to give the Frogs the victory.

On the mound, Nick Lodolo had five strikeouts in 2 2/3 innings of work before the rains came. Durbin Feltman gave the Frogs 3 1/3 scoreless innings in the later stages of the game. Caleb Sloan tossed 1 2/3 scoreless in the extras.
