RESULTS

AUSTIN, Texas - The TCU track and field program closed its regular season on Saturday collecting three first-place finishes at the Texas Invitational. "We had a really productive day today," said head coach Darryl Anderson. "Overall, it was a really good way for us to head into the Mountain West Conference Championships in two weeks. I thought the guys had a really good meet today. On the women's side, we just have to continue to get better. We gained some momentum today, which should help us get ready for conference."

A week after capturing the women's triple jump title at the Penn Relays, Neidra Covington, a four-time All-American, continued her winning ways in Austin, soaring to first-place honors with a leap of 42 feet, 9 3/4 inches on Saturday at Mike A. Myers Stadium.

The Horned Frogs opened the day cruising to an easy victory in the men's 4x100 in Austin. The quartet, which consisted of Skye Dawson, Charles Silmon, OJ Stoneham and Mychal Dungey, clocked time of 39.63 seconds to finish first overall.

On the women's side, the Purple and White unit of Whitney Gipson, Chaniqua Corinealdi, Kristal Juarez and Quinterra Charles crossed the finish line in fourth-place with a time of 45.58 seconds.

Larissa Matthews, a freshman from Chandler, Ariz., placed third overall in the women's 100-meter hurdles on Saturday afternoon, recording a personal and seasonal-best time of 13.44 seconds. By clocking 13.44 seconds, Matthews, who sits No. 1 in the Mountain West Conference this spring, moved into the top 30 in the NCAA.

Later in the day, junior Clint Renfro clocked a seasonal-best time of 51.54 seconds in the men's 400-meter hurdles to place fifth overall. Fellow junior Jordan Pitts followed in seventh-place with a time of 52.35 seconds. Renfro's time is currently No. 1 in the conference and ranked in the top 45 in the NCAA this spring.

In the men's 1500 meters, Festus Kigen, a junior from Kenya, earned runner-up accolades on Saturday with a personal and seasonal-best time of 3:46.22. Overall, Kigen not only clocked the top-collegiate time in the event, but also posted the fifth-fastest time in program history. His time currently ranks No. 4 in the Mountain West Conference. Lopez Lomong, a 2008 Olympian and the United States flag bearer in Beijing, won the event with a time of 3:44.67.

Fellow Kenya native Rose Tanui was victorious for the Frogs in the women's 3,000 meters on Saturday night, posting a personal and seasonal-best time of 9:46.56 to win the event. Tanui's time is the fourth-fastest time in program history.

Dell Guy and Clemore Henry led TCU in the men's 400 meters on Saturday, clocking seasonal and personal-best times of 46.55 and 46.82 seconds, respectively, to place 11th and 14th overall in a highly competitive field at Mike A. Myers Stadium.

Other highlights on the day included, Juarez recording an eighth-place finish in the women's 400 meters with a time of 54.03 seconds.

Dungey, an Austin native, led the Horned Frogs in the men's 100 meters on Saturday, crossing the finish line in sixth-place with a time of 10.42 seconds. He came back later in the day to place seventh overall in the men's 200 meters with a time of 21.00 seconds. Guy, a senior from Las Vegas, followed in 13th -place with a seasonal-best time of 21.18 seconds, while Silmon finished 15th overall with a time of 21.20 seconds.

Junior Sean Zurko placed fourth in the men's 800 meters, crossing the finish line with a seasonal-best time of 1:49.99. Zurko's time is currently No. 2 in the Mountain West this spring. Sophomore Jack O'Brien followed in ninth-place with a personal-best on Saturday.

In the women's long jump, Gipson and Covington both soared 20 feet, 5 ¾ inches to place fifth and sixth overall, respectively.

Senior Tommy Killen wrapped up competition in the men's discus in sixth-place, tossing the discus 172 feet, 8 inches. Freshmen Cameron Tabor followed in eighth-place out of 31 competitors on Saturday.

On the women's side, Stormy Harrison placed fifth on Saturday with a seasonal-best throw of 155 feet, 2 inches.

The men's 4x400, which consisted of Guy, Henry, Renfro and Zurko, closed the night clocking a seasonal-best time of 3:07.71 to place third overall. On the women's side, the quartet finished second with a seasonal-best time of 3:43.99.

TCU will have a week off before traveling to Albuquerque, N.M., for the 2010 Mountain West Conference Outdoor Championships.
